Needing to install permanent lighting in the three-car, I tried out the LED double light from Sam's Club. Nice and bright and well-built but a tad bit on the blue side. It was returned.
Since this is a development(obsession) project, I noticed that they also sold LED tubes that were purportedly the electronic ballast (some) compatible, "plug and play" with the Honeywell brand on them 18w 1800 lumen 4000k color. $20 for two.
I really like that they are bright and the color is a little bit more natural but I found that they dont directly plug into nearly anything. They are supposed to work at line voltage. For instance the quad fixture in the image I can put two of them in but if I put two more and they all start going wonky. Another quad they don't hardly work at all. I have a newer electronic ballast double they did not work at all.
The instructions are mixed because they do have a compatible ballast list, but also state that the ballast and starter should be removed and that the tombstones should be non shunted.
Why would a tombstone be shunted?
I was originally planning on using 12 (total)matching old 4 foot fixtures and just gutting them, except for the tombstones and use them but my source fell through. I'm kind of at a loss because I don't see any reason even buying inexpensive new T8 fixtures and then tearing the insides out.
In using Not sure if reflector is even needed because these tubes are aluminum on one side and the light appears to be pretty directional.
That said I'm thinking of just making my own fixtures, by mounting new non shunted tombstones to something, plug in the tube and wire 120v to one end.
Is there any reason this would not work?
