I am trying to build a overhead storage rack over the washer and the dryer. The measure would be 30" height by 60" wide by 36" deep. I am planning to use all slotted 18 gauge steel angle, which needs 4 pieces of 8 feet long piece and cut them. Lowe's sells it for about $20 a piece so the total cost would be $80 plus the cost of a 30"x60" particle board.

I also got some 5 shelves 72"x48"x14" storage rack from Costco for $60. The rack uses 14 gauge steel angle for the four poles. This just does not make sense. It looks like it would be cheaper to buy the rack from costco, cut the metal and use it to build the overhead rack.

Any idea where can I get the slotted steel angle for cheap? If I can find the lower cost source, I might build more overhead rack to utilize the garage's empty space.

Big box stores charge significantly more for steel than a local supplier. Where are you located?

One, welcome to the forum, and you are posting in the wrong section. Location would be essential for an answer to your post. In Canada we have metal supermarket which could be a good choice. If price is the biggest factor, hit a metal recycler, scrapyard and do some scrounging.
