Between 485 & 705 SQ/FT Overloaded 2 car gets organized

Long time lurker finally starting my modest garage renovation. It's an attached 2 car garage 22 feet wide by 23 feet deep. Plans are to get stuff up off the floor and better organized.

I was able to fit two smaller cars into the space but with my **** spread everywhere it got tight. My better half and I had a conversation (civil and respectful) about what to do. We agreed upon a budget and now it's happening!

The plan revolves around shelving, wall racks and cabinets. We're also covering up the spalled concrete floor with a floating floor.

The picture is how it was when pulling stuff away from the walls. There's a great space lurking there once the **** gets stored properly!

I had a go at installing slatwall. It's up. But it's upside down. Sigh. Down it comes. Tomorrow.

Keep at it. Don't let the slatwall mistake get you down. Thank how much better you'll be at it the second time around!

With these tiny "2-car" garages, you have to be absolutely militant about not allowing anything on the floor. If is absolutely has to be on the floor, put it on casters.

Some previous owner decided to put expanding spray foam behind the wall where a cabinet needs to go. The cabinets are getting lagged to the studs so a flattish wall is necessary. Time to run to the box store for a patch panel and drywall screws. And yes, I'm a rank amateur at using a rotozip. How could you tell?

At least this confirms the walls are 16" on center. Other houses in the neighborhood have 24" on center garages.

My neighbor offered to help. He helped me fix the slatwall. In return he's borrowing my corded chainsaw.

I fixed the bulging drywall. I'm not exactly proud of it. Fixing it correctly when it's going to be hidden by a large cabinet bolted to the wall wasn't a priority. Getting it flat enough where the cabinet can go there was the consideration.

Keep in mind that was everything pulled away from the walls to begin separating the junk out. There was space for two cars to park when everything was against the walls or on shelves. Although it was tight.

The back shelves, though, we had so much unused stuff on them. We've happily rehomed quite a bit so it's not immediately in the landfill.

I didn't get a picture tonight of the 8 foot shelf that went above the slatwall. Right now it's holding bins of car stuff. Not sure what we'll use it for after this but having it up opens a lot of options. The slatwall already came in handy sorting out parts for the shelf and keeping tools in reach.

Flooring arrived yesterday. So far I've spent today moving stuff out of the way so the first few rows of floor can go down. After that it's shift the big stuff back onto the completed floor section and finish the floor.

The flooring was begun. I can't get too far today since it's raining. I want the garage cleaned out before doing more flooring. Then I can get used to the slicker surface before moving things back in.

Progress was made. The cabinets were mostly put up and the flooring mostly done. It's not perfect due to the floor and walls not being perfect. That said it's far enough along where the cabinets can start being used to organize the remaining stuff. I got rid of a lot and will continue to get rid of more as the move-in progresses.

The wall cabinets are up. Ultimately they will have a light valance but that can wait while the floor gets finished. After that comes rehoming everything.

NewAge Pro 3.0. I'm liking them so far. Tons of space and very adjustable for shelf heights. My **** isn't close to filling them yet. Everything is lagged to the wall for anti-tip and to hold more. They are solidly built. Definitely overbuilt for my personal needs. But they'll handle whatever my family can throw at them so that's good.

Haven't had it long enough to experience it myself. From the threads on Racedeck and similar (this is GarageDeck, another Snaplock Industries product), putting down something hard like a piece of plywood or thicker metal is necessary to let the jack roll. Same with the jackstands to prevent gouging the floor. Not a big deal.

And here we are 95% complete. I still have some things to figure out like shoe storage that my SO will find acceptable. But the hard part is done. Thank goodness, this was a lot of work.
