Oxy/Acet tank storage

Just brought a victor outfit and some tanks...

How should they be stored when not in use for a few months...mainly bought this to get some exhaust studs out/cutting and may not use it that often so do you take everything off (regulators) or just leave them on?

I leave the regulators on the tank with the tanks shut off. I normally use the torch every day though. If you think that their is a chance the tanks will get knocked over then take the Regulators off and put them up for safe keeping. I don't know what size tanks you have but I have seen people chain their tanks to the wall to keep them from tipping over. Normally the larger sizes.

If not used for more than a week, take the regulators off and screw on the protective caps. Always make sure they are chained to the wall or in a cage/cart designed for them. I still remember being at Hickam AFB and having an airman 2nd knock over a bottle, the regulator was knocked off and the bottle when thru the wall of the hanger and halfway across the flight line before stoping. The airman had to leave and change his clothes....

I usually keep the regulators on but next time I make an order to welding suppling I am going to pick up some caps that are designed to protect the valve while the regs are on.

Also make sure you keep the tanks chained or tied to the wall or bench or use a cart that will protect the tanks at all times.

One more thing you might wan't to do if your set up did not come with flame arrestors buy a set.

+1 to flashback arrestors, It is good standard practice to take off the regulators and put tank caps back on. what's that take, all of a minute? Safety goes along way and once it sinks in it becomes routine. I work in an industrial setting, and a little safety goes along way. 99% of safety laws have come into effect sadly because something tragic happened to another. Don't want to sound like motherhen here,lol. it's just the honest str8 out facts.

At the mine/mill site i work most often, they are now switching over all their bottles to the new design, has reg n arrestors built right on the bottle, attach your hoses and fl;ip switch off you go.

I used to store mine in my van. Boy are the neighbors pissed......
