I searched 19 pages and didn't see any threads on this. So my set up came strapped to a normal dolly and I'm tired of fighting it. I have a project coming up that will require alot of mobility and stability, so I was wondering if anyone has customized a dolly/hand truck or built there own. Just looking for some fresh ideas

Here are a couple pics of a torch cart I made up from scratch a couple years ago. It has several special features making it user friendly. Ed.

1) Large wheels and tires centered back from tanks for stability and ease of lifting. Also travels better off pavement.
2) Positive tank retention. Uses hinged top strap lined with torch hose.
3) Torch cradle at handles for setting storing or setting hot torch.
4) Lifting eye above tanks for loading or hoistin.
5) Tool storage hooks and box for keeping torch items on the cart.
6) Guages face back towards handles so you can park it on wall and use it.
7) Small footprint but with wheels set back a little still very stable parked.

Look no further rock crusher. That about takes the cake!

What is the long pipe that stores vertically behind the oxy tank?

Great cart, Rockcrusher.

The only thing I'd like to see is a place to store the cylinder caps.

I had not thought about that type of wheel (like the old baby carriage wheels). I'll bet that rolls well.

I'm planning on building a new Oxy-Acetylene cart soon too. I knew I definitely wanted a lifting eye on it and I like the way you did yours.

beautifully done and brilliant design.

Thank you guys for the kind words. They are much appreciated. This cart has worked very well so far and the only modification I found it needed was a cross bar handle which moved the leverage point back an inch or two and made it a little more ergonomic to move. Here is a pic of the handle mod.

I often use a cutting guide on plate and that brass rod works extremely well for me as a guide. I hold it on the cut line with my left hand and follow along it with the torch tip. The relief you naturally get for the flame when using a bar is really good and easy to angle the torch for bevels. You might think it would want to move during the cut but I find this method very stable.

you know those carts are not osha approved. the tanks has to be seperated.

Fortunately government interference is not allowed in my shop...yet. I could have chosen to include a fire wall between tanks but seriously feel it is unnecessary to safe operation. I did leave room for safety caps but do not feel the need for those in my shop either. I did consider a tip over though and the lift eye will hit first if the cart were to be knocked over forward and the handles protect the gauges if it were to go over the back.

I did consider cap storage but I have a great place for those where I keep spare cylinders and thought they would clutter it up too much. The wheels were off an old Dayton high wheel lawn mower. They roll very well and don't add a lot of weight. I considered even larger diameter wheels for rolling over the rough ground out near my scrap pile but these I already had and have worked really well so far. Ed.

Dude you should patent this and sell the plans. It sounds stupid but, I rarely see a good Oxy Acetaline cart anywhere people always half *** it and just chain them to a normal dolly and mount a box on the back.

Yes, that cart is pretty. I bought the second little set at an auction and don't really use the cart. Before plasma I had bottles stationary and 2 100 ft hoses, one for OA and one with O/LP. I am back to a cart with short hoses and its not used daily.

Some good ideas here. I really should get around to fastening my tanks with something other than bungy cords
