When I was teaching welding classes, I always kept a regulator repair kit on hand for the occasional fix. We had multiple torches in the shop and learning students can at times be a little hard on the equipment. I also have a kit on hand at the farm shop.
Now for the story. Last week I fixed a regulator for a friend (victor is the standard around here) and stopped by the welding supply to get a repair kit to put back into inventory. I was told by the counter salesman that they will not sell regulator parts to the public, but I could leave the regulator and have it rebuilt for a $75 minimum charge. I went to the other welding supplier and bought two kits for $22.
Has anyone else ran into a problem getting torch parts or has my old (as in former) LWS just found a way to try and get more of our money.
