Anyone with experience, wealth of knowledge to which ozone generator air purifier, ionizer & deodorizer would be best value for household & RV-fifth wheel use?

Mainly want the ozone generator feature, all else is subjective to size & cost.

I see some advertising for under $200 that will do 3,500 sq/ft, how do you verify the accuracy if the retailer offers additional specs?

Anything to know that the consumer should consider or shy away from?

Somebody correct me if I’m wrong but aren’t ozone generators bad for living spaces with people in them. Ozone is considered a pollutant . We used to use them in the visiting room at the prison I worked at in the 80s . They knocked down the cigarette[emoji3061]smoke and stink pretty well. Nobody actually lived in there though , just a few hours . Everything I know of says don’t run them continually when people and pets are always there. Don’t take this to the bank however and someone spank me if I’m wrong.

Bought one three years ago off a axon, love it. Removes moldy musty smell from basement. Use it in cars as well. I am a non smoker, so when buying used smoked in vehicle it is a necessity.

I believe you are generally correct. I have an industrial generator and monitor that come with a boatload of warnings. I would not use either in a space where some one was going to occupy.

But I assume (yeah, I know) that one built into an air purifier would be running at such a low level that it would either have a ton of warnings, or be running at such a low level of ozone.

Yes, it's not safe to be around. I use an small ozone generator on some interior car details to help remove funk. It'll smell like bleach for a few hours after running.

I did a lot of research on them and Uv lights when I replaced my heat pump last year. Ended up not going with either. Ozone in low doses has no or very minimum affect on mold and bacteria. At higher doses it starts to become hazardous to pets and humans. The problem is unless you have fresh air being exchanged with stagnant air in your house or RV you are basically recirculating the ozone and adding to it every min the generator is running. I’ll pass

Bought one of these last year. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07DPFRT34/?tag=atomicindus08-20

You definitely can't run them while the house is occupied. In fact, you pretty much have to make sure the timer has expired for a few hours before re-entering the house. Even then, you'll still be able to smell the effect, and possibly have to air the house out before you are comfortable.

A few thoughts. Do they work? For the short term, it seems to. Long term I don't know. We smoke in the house and figured it was something good to run every once in a while, particularly if we know we're going to have guests over. If we were to sell the house, move out next month and ran it for a couple of weeks to eliminate smells, I just don't know if it would work long term.

When setting one of these units off, get out of the house immediately. I have found this unit to have an instant effect by the time my hand is off of the timer, and the smell is a "you can't breathe" potent. No running into the other room to grab a drink of water out the door, no grabbing keys you forgot. Turn it on and beeline for the door.

After letting it run for say two hours, and coming back 6 hours later, you're still going to smell the ozone effect. Seems to cover our house pretty effectively (3BR, 2 Bath). Again though, I don't know what the long term effect would be. We haven't had the chance to set it off and go on vacation for a few days and see if the effect still holds several days later with no further contamination introduced.

I discovered that many of these units are exactly the same from dozens of suppliers, they're just painted and labeled differently. The link I provided shows the cheapest price I could find at the time on that model.

One final note I have observed, is that prior to running it this past fall, we were getting the typical small spiders trying to come inside for the winter migration. The wife throwing a **** fit every time she'd run across one. After setting off the ozone generator for a couple of hours when we weren't going to be home all day, I noticed that ALL spider activity stopped. Haven't seen another all winter. So if nothing else, it seems to work pretty good as a pest control device.

To be clear, I know what they do. I am looking for feedback for unreliable units, good machines with an unknown name that are priced sub to name brands, & added functions that should be considered as a must have or bogus claim.

Now that you bring that up I see Edenpure always advertising their thunderstorm air cleaners and it makes me wonder what’s good and bad and in what conditions.
Those commercial rigs in the prison sure did work well I’ll say that. You could hear it snapping and the smoke which I loathed just started falling and clearing . Of course that’s only for 4 or less hours exposure on an occasional basis.

I read something a ways back that said the strong ozone generators would promote oxidation of rubber.

As in carpet underpad and the seals in window thermal units. I guess you could add foam for seat cushion and mattresses too.

There was also a healthy rental market for these machines. Now I can’t find anyone renting them. Tells me they don’t like the risk.

This is the one I bought last year. It had good ratings and works well for me. UV light is a plus.

https://www.amazon.com/New-Comfort-Stainless-Generator-Purifier/dp/B00DNHUZ0M/ref=sr_1_18?crid=366GHEQEV1GUI&dchild=1&keywords=ozone+generator&qid=1617193589&refinements=p_36%3A1253527011&rnid=386465011&s=home-garden&sprefix=ozone%2Ctools%2C227&sr=1-18

There must be a demand now, when I jumped at the beginning of COVID, they were like $250

IIRC, I got mine shipped from WalMart but Home Depot was the same price, Amazon and EBay were a few $$$ more. Great Vacs is the seller listed and mine came from them as well.

Wow that sure did spike!

Was looking to stay under $200.

Purchase a unit with same spec a couple of years back, way more then need for a small home. Ozone is not healthy in higher concentrations but it breaks down into oxygen within a couple hours, so I turn it on for an hour, turn it off, then leave the area for a couple hours. Ozone in high concentrations, repetitively, is damaging to many items found in a home, but for low concentration or occasional use it will not cause harm to materials .

This unit is what is used in the encased >$200 units , output is 10,000 mg….

I have a "homemade" one. A black light bulb mounted in a small plastic tackle box with holes drilled in the sides, a couple of muffin fans mounted outside to circulate air. Used it to destink used cars. Put it in the car, lit it up, closed all windows and doors. Left it a day or two, depending on stink, turned it off. Left windows down a couple of days. Ozone is Oxygen in single atom form as opposed to O2. It is chemically active, meaning that single atom is looking aggressively for something to combine with. Including in your lungs. It is hazardous in concentration. It is also effective. You may be able to find a You-tube video on how to make one. I still have it , use it occasionally. It didn't cost much, was easy to make, I'd do it again.

When it comes to such electronics that I've initiated this thread for, I tend to create a mountain out of a mole hill. Buying a premade unit saves me from the "well, I minds well do this too" & before you know it, five years has gone by & it's still a project. lol
