I got the 1/2 hex drive all cleaned up. I buzzed it down on the bench grinder and then I pulled a D42 and it went into the evapo rust for 3 days. Then I cleaned it again and then it went into the wd40 for 2 days. It came out pretty decent given how bad it looked. I actually got the ratchet mechanism moving and ratcheting like it is supposed to. As you can see there is some pitting on the head but given how uncommon this ratchet is I am glad I saved this oneIMG_0738.jpegIMG_0739.jpeg

I passed up an L-wrench Sunday. I'm sure it was a P&C, but it had been welded at the bend and had no markings. I suspect it had been a long version and someone shortened it for a specific job.

Picked up this 7/8 sized early hand stamped L handle. Prior owner repainted it but it can be refinished. Also scored this early General Tool speeder and posted it here due to the relationship. IMG_0890.jpegIMG_0889.jpegIMG_0888.jpeg
So Smoke, I know you know this but just to ensure the general audience is up to speed..that is a Thorsen mfd speed wrench and the connection with P&C lies in 1. General Tool was an original retail arm of P&C and 2. Thorsen was founded by former P&C employees.

I think this 1947 4" adj. wrench was brought up before somewhere on the GJ but not sure if pictured. Clearly stamped P&C over VPLVMBV 704 marking on one side and mfd. 1704 u.s.a. over the FORGED PLVMBALVY STEEL on opposite side.

This adjustable is so cool! I have seen a combo wrench that is plomb on one side and p&c on the other and now this...

Oregon rock crusher came by and checked out my tool pile and made a post on the Plomb thread. Besides the excellent BS session he gifted me this very early, double 4 pt., super clean P&C Ford brake wrench. I don't have all my stuff here or where I can find it but I did grab these 2 other West Coast examples for comparison... a mid 30's 8 pt. Thorsen and a 8 pt/ 4 pt 6502 variation 1931 Plomb.

The P&C torpedo level made the trip to the shop today:

But...

I wonder who actually made these?

Those are the only markings on the levels. No obvious way to disassemble them, or I'd swap the good vials on the Exact for the bad on the P&C.

Isn't there a "port" on the top side for that (currently vertical) vial? Maybe the cover plate for the horizontal vial covers it?

I see a difference between the two bubbles. Which one is accurate? : )
(to my eye, the top one says the right side's high)

I find 45 degree vials kind of annoying because I really only use the other two.
I put tape over the one in my most-used torpedo level.

The hanging hole is a nice feature.

2 1207’s The standard open end/ flare/ line/ diesel both ends 7/16 on the left is pre Plomb acquisition. The 1/2 x7/16 on the right is post acquisition. Maybe Plomb thought the earlier style was too close to the A.Plomb / Calif Tool style Diesel wrench.
