I think this was a later production. Proto ran a "ruby line" that was a economic line and it looks very similar just a different color.

Put together another 1/4" set. No paint left on the box so I gave it a krinkle coat.

Very nice! Did you post them in the 1/4 drive thread? Those beaver tail ratchets and hinge handles are not always the easiest to find! Like lesserson said, would you mind sharing your process or paint you use?

So “a krinkle coat” is a product?
All I’ve seen demo-ed was a two-step single-can engine enamel (VHT), which relied on a timer and a heat gun.
I understand once-upon-a-time crinkled paint was a common “problem,” but now if you WANT to do it, it’s like a lost art. All the advice I’ve seen online is how to avoid it.
If it was difficult or required an expensive product, it wouldn’t be on so many things from the mid century.

Had a can of valve cover wrinkle paint I used. Agreed it must have been a common process in the past.

I think it was (pitched the can). Whatever brand they carry at O'Reilly autoparts. Just sprayed on a heavy coat and let it wrinkle. Scraped it off the hinges before the topcoat, as it is thick and would rub off when the lid was closed.

Speaking of "cadet" blue, did P & C paint the indents of their adjustables? Here's a 1945 Danielson-made that appears to have some paint traces.

Probably 1955, Bill. Plomb bought JPD in late 1946. Prior to that, Utica was supplying them adjustables. And if that's a Registered Trademark symbol "(R)" to the right of the P&C logo, it can't be earlier than 1946. Nice find, though. I'd be VERY tempted to re-finish that in cadet blue!

Well, I found just a piece of a P&C hub puller on Saturday. At this rate, I'll probably never find the rest of the pieces.

I found a P&C 483 clutch-head drive screwdriver at an estate sale today. It is in good shape, and even has the original price tag. $1.55 for "The best tools money can buy." I paid 55 cents less than that.

I checked mine, and it's the Proto marked version, missing the slugging attachment you have. Too bad it's mismarked! I also have 2 New Britain, and another brand, something like Automotive Brake. I need to get rid of 3 of them......Not sure how that many got into my working toolbox. And, they're for all intents identical, too.

I have a few clutch head drivers with the price tags as well... I think they didn’t get used a lot

Lots of then Lugz, but Id guess many drivers were bought and used once and put away. Most that I've picked up were from professional mechanics and showed a lot of use. (I even have some as sockets)

The whole time I drove a Corvair ('63) I never needed Clutch head drivers. I just never got that far into it, and then it left with my first wife.

They only used them on the Forward Control series (trucks and vans). The cars don’t have any. At least you had the ‘63 to drive for a while. I only drive my ‘63 convertible a few times a year now and not since the pandemic. The van is at my summer home and does a little pine needle hauling occasionally. It still runs fine.

Ahh... That explains why I never found one. But then, I didn't even know what they were at that time, so I would have been very confused by them.

I do miss that little Monza though.

I found one P&C tool today at a Tahoe garage sale. It’s a postwar 3/4” drive 11/16” socket.

Don,
I'm pretty sure I have one of those in my toolbox grabbag from Wednesday (which was purchased for the Pat-Pending SK 1/2 Ratchet). I will go through and double check later today. I picked it out and moved it into a bucket, not knowing exactly what it was.

I was fortunate to have received a very nice P&C 6211,and 6203 within the old CL toolbox full of vintage USA tools. It is an eclectic mix !

I did a gentle handbbrushing with a very soft stainless steel wire brush and lightly oiled them. They are now in my main toolbox and I've already used the ratchet twice since Wednesday. These are great tools!

Poor photo, and they look 5X better in person.

Stay safe,

Shawn
