I'm vexed by your baseless accusation Ben....BTW, here's an old 1931 P&C catalog with an unusual sticker from just before General Tool moved on from distributing P&C tools to selling Thorsen Tools under the General Tool name.

Smoke is still learning the art of trolling ...

Here is a P&C 3/4 12 point 3/8 drive socket. It’s cracked unfortunately.

I am in the process of inheriting my grandpa's tool collection. He was a self-employed mechanic for many years. Seems he had a little bit of every major brand, but mostly good old USA stuff. Going through, I am finding quite a bit of P&C tools, and I have to say I really like them! They are solid. The old catalogs I've found online are very nice to look at too.

Anyone know when they started putting the R-circle (registered) mark on the tools, next to the logo?

Are you going to sew it on something? Probably meant for a shoulder on a jacket, maybe over the heart, but when I saw them the first time I was thinking blue ball cap would look good.

It would be perfect for a hat but i am hard on my hats so no go... it is going to be encapsulated and admired but not used :) It is 4.5" x 2.5" tall so it was probably meant to go over a pocket on a work shirt. I think Mr.X has a work shirt but i cant remember if it is this logo or the earlier one ?

OTG- no it's not an iron on...it is meant to be sewn on. No glue backing on it.

I got two ignition wrenches # 2810 1/4-5/16. Same size different years. Does anybody know approximate years of production?

Eventually I will need to create a list of tools for sale/exchange - a lot of my purchases from yard sale tend to have random tools and sizes. I assume that majority of people back in the day bought tools not in sets, but rather just the ones they needed...

The one with r for registered trademark would be post 54, the other is post war, probably 50 or so.

That looks like a #620 wrench from page 21 of the 1927 catalog. The catalog shows the knurling, but I wonder if this one was made without it, and it was knurled later to bring it up to a later standard.

Nice early wrench!!!

Thanks, I saw that. Page 27 of that same catalog has a 12pt wrench as well but it looks different than the drawing. Hard to say.

Now that's a rare wrench - nice find!

Thanks. I thought Mr. X had all the oldies squirreled away.

They came in 6 and 12 point

Nice collection!

Looks like the body of their earliest valve tappet tool minus the screwdriver.

That’s got to be it! Thank you. Guess we were a couple pages shy. I’ll now likely spend the rest of my picking days flipping through every hex shank screwdriver bit I see.

I cant remember when they went to that logo that says milwaukie Oregon.... I am going to be a recipient of both of those 1/2 drive boxes soon when I meet up with 2 different forum members to trade but I believe you are correct.

An estate sale purchase yesterday. It appears in P&C's 1948 catalog, but not the 1939 edition. This is post-Plomb acquisition of P&C and the contents of the 0200-A set match up perfectly with the Plomb 4700A set in the 1939 Plomb catalog (including the part number for the case).

I'm going to shoot for completing the 0200-C set which includes the ratchet. Currently I have only sockets 0207, 0208-S, 0209, 0211 & 0212. The hunt is on!!

Great find! Ratchet and spinner look similar (almost identical) to the plomb version.

You guys caught me. That is definately a mrx tease. Just a project I have but it is pretty rusted out. May need a donor waterloo for parts. Someone left it outside with the drawers open and the elements wrecked it.

I was referring to the proto tool mobile emblem in the upper right hand corner... I cant wait to see it restored! you should post some pictures in the proto tool thread. Joco sawdust found a really nice 5 drawer one recently and I did some catalog sleuthing for the years those were offered... I want to see more pictures but we should probably do that on the correct thread :) Congrats!

So this is probably going to be of interest for only real P&C history buffs / geeks but here goes...Years ago, John Derville Jr. relayed to me the story of when Ned Boyd sold his stake of the P&C retail arm to his father John Derville Sr. who was the Asst. Mgr at the time, and left P&C in the late 20's with Sherm Haskins and tool and die maker Pete Mortensen and started Thorsen Tools down by the Bay. ( This ended up on AA and apparently there's a similar condensed version in the Shurtleff family history) So yesterday I was mega bored and made a very half a$$ed attempt to run down whatever happened to some of the guys and I came upon a patent and apparently Pete ran into Howard Fowler in Oakland and co-patented some fluid/air pressure etc.coupling device ideas. The name Fowler sounded familiar and I did a quick search and came up with this air nozzle and also a radiator water nozzle both of which I have in my garage tools on the west coast....Anyway.....I started looking at the Company name and it hit me (possibly) that the PEM in Fowler-PEM Co. is Peter E. Mortensen. ( E. IS his middle initial.)...watcha think?

Edit. so i looked a little more and found, among others, a 1966 patent 3,267,553 to a Peter E. Mortensen assigned to The PEM company...at this point located in Milwaukie Oregon.

Here's some of the earlier Patents Mortensen had some hand in 2,044,252 2,074,021 2,091,515
