I'm uploading a picture of a P&C Tools product.
It's a mystery to me. It doesn't appear in their 1953 catalog.
P&C part number indexing suggests to me that this #308 is for brake service.
Anybody know what the heck it is?

Some shoe brake systems had eccentric anchor pins with two flats on a stub at the end and threaded underneath that for locking nuts. You would hold the eccentric in position while you tightened the lock nut. This tool looks about the right size for that.

I know that 1940 Ford hydraulic brakes used that system.

Thank you Sir! You've pointed my nose in a somewhat more specific direction.

In my opinion thats far to ugly a tool to be in you tool box. I`ll forward my address to you so you can get rid of it safely.

I remember Dad having a special socket for the double D shape on shock absorbers. I'll have to look around next time I'm out there and see if he still has it.

Just checking back to see if anyone has recognized the tool (I still think it's for brake service)

Provincial has it, application would be '39-42 Ford. It might well be of use on shocks but that would just be coincident sizes...
Let me know if you sellit...I can give it some actual excercise on early Ford brakes. The application is awkward without the special tool, as the cam can only be turned with a ridiculously undersized ignition wrench or a very clumsy application of a crescent...

Just checking in to see if anyone has recognized the tool (I'm still stumped, but I still think it's for brake service). The pic posted by Chopper1 is illuminating: I notice that the oval profile of my "mystery offering" is more shallow (almost like a basic circle). If it didn't have the tool stamp on it, I would conclude that it was an accessory handle of some kind.

You've been given the answer a few times here, are you unable to see the replies?

Price List 40A from 1939 says 308-E is a Valve Stem Holding Tool. Unfortunately it isn't shown in the catalog.

Shown in catalog 40 is #309 through 312 and they are Eccentric Brake Wrenches
