Its come a LONG way so far. Looking good. Can't wait until you get that finished off, I'll be waiting :)

Makes me wish I had some land to work with and handy friends, unfortunately most of my friends are in management positions in different customer service related jobs, in comfy offices. I don't think they could even lift a hammer lol.

Good job so far!

Thanks farmer Joe. Three menonite carpenters and I got it this far in 4 days, they are hard workers and great craftsman, I was having trouble keeping up. I'm very happy with the work they've done. There were no official plans to go by just hand drawn sketches of what I had in mind.

I really like how the additional roofs break up the vertical mass of the building. Looking good!

You and your crew got it built really quick; wow!

Thanks, I agree about the roofs breaking up the front of the building, especially the one over the garage doors.

Well ****!!!!! I want a hill now to build into!!!! Very nice. I like the difference that you'll have with being able to walk directly into the top area of the garage. :rocker:

Lol, that hill cost me alot of money. If it wasn't for the hill I probably would have done a pole building. But you know one thing leads to the next, "hey why don't you build the garage into the hill, and you might as well put a second floor on it.....etc" haha

Thought I'd give an update, it's getting there but not fast enough for my liking. I figure I have siding, electric, insulate first floor, drywall/osb first floor, retaining wall next to the porch, plus a bunch of odds and ends. It is slow going, basically work on it on the weekend, gets dark too early during the week.

It's been a couple of years but fantastic read, anyway. I gotta find out where to get those trusses. I'm planning an 800 sq ft apt above a garage in northern VA, and these would be perfect.

Sent you a PM, hockeyfan88. I know this thread is very old at this point, but I am very interested in those trusses - where did you get them and/or who manufactured them? Any information you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

We're about to kick off a build but we're over budget. One of the opportunities to cut cost is to get rid of the conventional 2x12 floor joist construction in the garage loft and go with attic trusses. Your setup here provides MUCH more room than a traditional attic truss. :)
