Has anyone ever heard of the brand Packard for a horizontal band saw? There's one at a local estate sale, currently way overpriced
but I can't find anything about it. It's a small one, like 4 1/2" size. Sorry, I should have taken a pic of the plaque on the saw so I
don't know what the model might be. I understand it *may* be a clone of a Delta.
Thanks.

I would only get if very cheap and preferably if you could inspect first. Taiwanese and not in business anymore if parts are needed.

Maybe there are clones out there under different names?

I somewhat agree. Even HF band saws have some parts availabilty and dozens of youtube videos on
repairing and fixing issues.

Most of the parts can be found or made. The gears vary some amongst the various flavors. They typically condemn the saw once they are worn out. I've seen several that were worn out. In fact one saw I bought for parts had a box with two previously worn out gear sets in it. It was cheap because the third set was shot.

decent saw for hobbyiest if you can get it for a good price. make sure it works as intended. gear boxes are known to be weak spots, check for lots of play/backlash/ crunchy when turning by hand .
