My brother in law has this Packer socket set and we’re trying to find out what it’s worth. It has the the ratchet, 3 universals, over 30 sockets and the metal case. Anyone have an idea what this would be worth? Thx.

A quick eBay search showed me you can buy a set of the 30ish sockets + some ratchet extensions for 45 bucks + 15 for shipping. Maybe add another Ten bucks for the ratchet. Don't think there is a big collectors market but they are cool none the less.

clearance issues were certainly not a concern when that stuff was made...of course back then you could just about climb in the engine compartment to do your work

checking ebay's "sold" listings is probably your best way to determine "value".
Ray/Packer appeals to a relatively small collector market.

There's a Packer/"RAY" thread down on the vintage board if you're interested in seeing other examples, historical info, and trade mag ads. Your BIL's set is middle period. Early (1912-1920) would be wood boxes with a different tubular clutch type ratchet. They moved to steel boxes and that female nonreversible rat and eventually hot forged sockets and additional handles in the 20s and they were out of business by 1927. Pristine condition early sets and big late sets that came in a box with an embossed lid can reach $100-ish, but mid sets are the most common, and many have nice intact decals under the lid. I think $35 is high end for that set, but you never know. You might get some inquiries just "innocently" bumping the thread with the same question. Quickest way to find it is the Index in the Sticky. Under Packer.

I'm passing on some Mossberg sockets, ratchet, box and accessories I suspect will be going cheap at a local weekly auction. I personally love that old stuff but there seems to be a very limited market for it and then only in really good condition.
