Dear Sir,

Please go into your Admin Control Panel and change the

Time to Wait Before Starting to Display 'Last Edited by...'

from 2 minutes to at least 10 minutes.

I would very much appreciate this adjustment.

Merk, I will look into it, but I only have access to the Moderator Control Panel, not the admin one, so I might not be able to help you out.

That's ok Dave ... hopefully, Ryan will be gracious enough to do it.

Does Ryan ever read the Questions & Suggestions section?

Reduce it to 1 minute or less!

:D

Seriously, though, I've thought that in the past. I'm not just trying to give Merk a hard time!

I see where he's coming from. Sometimes I think of something I want to add or see errors I want to correct...

You can always edit your posts. It's just that, Merk wants there to be no record of his edits or deletions. He's prolific in these fields! :spit:

^ What that says right there is that Merkava_4 F***ed his post because he can't spell worth a damn. Everybody then comes to the conclusion that Merkava_4 is a bumbling idiot with a 3rd grade education. I'd rather just delete the post rather than suffer the embarrassment.

That's what the edits and deletions are usually for? Spelling?

Merk, it's no biggie. We know you are an educated and knowledgeable fellow. Despite what some people would have you believe, spelling on the internet is not the most important thing in life! :lol_hitti

I delete my posts for all kinds of reasons. I'll delete my posts for spelling errors, punctuation errors, missing words, poor sentence structure, etc... I've even deleted some posts that were supposed to be jokes but nobody laughed at them.

I don't think anyone looks down on a post when they see it has been edited. We all do it, sometimes you think of something else to add or answer your own question. Also, spelling and grammar mistakes happen. Now if I were writing my dissertation I would worry about it, but not on an informal internet forum.

P.S. I do think the the time to edit thread titles should be removed so Sold can be put in classified thread titles.

I do this when I see that items in a classifieds post have all been sold. But, perhaps I need to be more vigilant about it.

On other sites I can go in and delete a whole post without any trace of it ever being there unless somebody quoted it. Can that be done here?

Also on another site if I start the thread and I delete my first post the thread goes away. That way I can get rid of a thread thats gone awry. Not possible here either, is it?

Yes, I do it all the time ... but ... the moderators are still able to see your post if they want to.

If you have a thread that has gone south the mods and admins can either delete it or clean it up by splitting it, throwing the nasty part in the round file. ;)

The worst problem with cleaning up a thread is all of the quoting that goes on here because of the ability of people to edit their posts for an extended period. It makes it extremely tedious to clean up a thread.

For sites that are much larger than this with lots more traffic we used a 3-5 minute edit notice and a 10 minute limit on editing a post. If a person needed to have a post revised after 10 minutes they had to ask a mod. The edit notice timing was also tied into the post notification email so multiple post notifications were not sent out. Limiting edit time, cuts way down on quoting and as a result it cuts way down on database size, server requirements, and bandwidth requirements.
