Hello,

Newbie here..... I live in south Florida and am about to close on a new spec home. I have a poured floor about 5 months old.

I want to color the floor. It won't be much of a shop or anything just a place to park cars, hold lawn stuff, and do some light tinkering(making things worse that I try to fix).

I like a clean floor, but want something easy to apply, and that has a good pot life so I don't have to hurry so much. I also don't mind re-coating every year or every other or so as needed.

If I use an acrylic paint, or a one part epoxy paint, no chips or top coat, can I just touch up as needed? Or just pressure wash and re-apply as needed? And if I want to change color, as long as I use the same product can I just apply over existing if cleaned?

I f I went with a 2 part, or more of a true epoxy, can I also just touch up as needed if it is the same product and color? And again if I changed color, but used the same product, can I also cover old product?

We may re-paint the house in a couple years, and if we do the color change would make me want to redo my garage floor.

I have a Sherwin Williams close by so I wouldn't mind using something from them, but their website isn't exactly clear as to all of their options, or I just can't seem to find it.

TIA for any help or thoughts!

don't waste time on 1 part or paint. get two part or tile. and search up so you can make an informed choice

You might want to read this article about paint and epoxy paint. There is more information within the article that you can link to that will answer a lot of your questions.

Thanks Shea, I have already read this article. While a nice read, it did not answer any of my questions which is why I posted them here.

I have read many things on your site, but nothing really answer my questions about touching up any given product, or changing colors if I choose to.

You might want to consider an acid stain with an acrylic top coat. When the acrylic starts to wear away it's real easy to just reapply.

If I use an acrylic paint, or a one part epoxy paint, no chips or top coat, can I just touch up as needed? Or just pressure wash and re-apply as needed? And if I want to change color, as long as I use the same product can I just apply over existing if cleaned?

Yes you can. After a period of time if you have a lot of chipped up areas that you have touched up they become noticeable through the paint.

I f I went with a 2 part, or more of a true epoxy, can I also just touch up as needed if it is the same product and color? And again if I changed color, but used the same product, can I also cover old product?

You can, but it is more involved than just using acrylic paint. If you put down a good epoxy floor product you won't need to worry about touching the floor up. They are made to handle quite a bit of abuse. They way you plan on using the garage is not hard on epoxy at all.

We may re-paint the house in a couple years, and if we do the color change would make me want to redo my garage floor.

That's why most people like to go with neutral colors like light grays and tans. They go with most colors.

I hope these answers help you out a little better.

Since you are near Sherwing Williams, check out the H&C Concrete Penetrating Sealer Solid Color (not the high-gloss clear). It's a solvent-based sealer, and you can buy it in just about any color you want, since they have it in premixed, or will tint. I was checking it out the other day; says it's water resistant, acid, oil, salt, etc. (but not brake fluid and some solvents); no hot tire pickup. Says to be suitable for garage and warehouse floors as well as driveways.

SW is having a 40% off sale beginning this Friday, so the price comes to around $32/gal. I'm considering using it for my motorhome storage building.
