It`s been a long haul but it`s finaly done. The 3 panels at the back bolt together in the front and are filled with sticky intake filters then the seams will be duct taped up before painting.

It just a hobby shop but i want to learn to do it all as im to cheap to hire anybody else that way you know whats under the paint. I do the body work in there so the rest of the shop does not get dusty and there is a drain in the booth to it can be washed out before painting.

Looks very nice great job , i know a friends shop and they just do quick sanding repairs in there booth and its the worst thing to do it sets you up for all types of dust part to get into your paint, they also hose the whole place down and still gets stuff into the paint..... i went out and bought the large car covers from hf at 9 bucks each and just cover the finished cars with those as well as use a dust collector in shop. could you post some pics of ur vent system howd you do it also what size fan ect, im almost done with my booth as well and curious how you did yours?

Great job on the booth!

A build thread would be awesome, any details on the materials used for walls, filter system, or door would be much appreciated.

I don`t have any other photos of the build but the walls were hardi plank so they won`t swell when wet.
The lights are what ever was cheap at the local electric supply store they will be totaly sealed up before use like the rest of the booth i used sickaflex every were there was a seam so the booth can be throughly be scrubed before painting a made sure to eliminate any horozontal surfaces that could hold dust.
The fan is a comercial binks unit out of a truck repair shop with the plenum shortened to fit the space and the vent runs up through the roof with a 1/12 hp motor powering it it realy *****! (in a good way)

Nice Booth! will be watching this thread as I plan to do something similiar in my new shop currently under construction. Couple of questions

interior dimensions?
I assume the structure in the back will provide suction and remove the fumes. Where will the inlet be?

Cheers
Steve

Now that you are finished and have a car sitting in there, do you feel the 12' width is adequate for painting?

Cheers

That looks awesome, nice job. I wish I had room for a dedicated booth.

I bet you will see a sudden increase in the number of "friends" that you have within your local circle of car hobby folks, for sure!

I'm jealous. I really wanted to incorporate a booth in my design, but it's just not going to happen. For the amount I'll need to use it, I can just rent time in a booth near me.

If you're not on it, go check out the forum at http://www.AUTOBODYSTORE.COM Great DIY board for autobody/paint. Len, the owner is a great help as are all the members. He has good prices on product too.

I have no business affiliation with the site btw.

Nice build! More pics please :)

Well i just checked my measurements and it`s 13 ft wide. On the grand sport i can just open up both doors but not get by don`t think this will be an issue when painting but we will see? Thats all the room i had to spare but in a perfect world i`d think 14 or 15 feet wide.

Yeh thats already happening but it`s a goog thing i already rangled a carbon fiber shaker hood for my mustang and a smoken good deal on my first paint job. As for room my shop is only 36x36x12! The booth is treated like any regular space just better lighting and ventilation.

Looks great! I am doing something quite similar right now. One major difference will be mine will draw air in from the back of the ceiling and blow out the front door(s).

Where would someone buy this "Hardiplank" stuff???

Do you paint it? Mud it? What's the best way to keep it from shedding and creating dust?

In NZ Hardiplank is a cement fibre weatherboard plank.
The cement board, as you call it, is called hardiflex here in NZ.
Then there is a pre glazed finish sheet called Hardiglaze.
That would be perfect for a paint booth.
Washes down real good.
Used for shower lining here.

Get those roll master wheel dollys very easy to push with one foot and create the space as you paint as need . thats what my plan is.
