I have recently built a garage addition. I piddle with some old muscle cars and plan to paint a bit in a room that is seperated from the rest of the garage by a wall. This room is 14x23x12 (the total garage is 31x54x12.) I live in the country with no close neighbors and would be doing work only for myself. My questions is as regards airflow in this proposed paintroom.
One idea that I made aware of was to try to have a true 'downdraft' type setup. I have a flat concrete floor but the idea was to build a 'false' floor that would be strong enough to drive a car on (4000lbs +/-) and to then duct out the overspray though downdraft type ducting beneath the vehicle. The incoming air source would be from above through some sort of filter setup. Remember that this room has a 12 foot ceiling height. The exhaust would go out through the outside wall, pulled by some sort of sealed exhaust fan capable of creating the CFM needed and filtered before leaving.
My other idea was to have the incoming filtered air come from one end and then be ducted out the other end.
If I went forward with this idea there are many questions not the least of which is how would you put in a false floor capable of holding up a car? Any thoughts are welcome.
