It does work with 1 gal cans. it's not as fast as the paint store shakers , it seems to me if the stroke was longer it would perform better. also I think the old paint shakers had sort of an an orbital action to them as well, these simply flip flop back & forth
It works fine for the intended purpose , just takes longer than I think it should... maybe I'm impatient
