OK,

After buying the Wilton yesterday, I had an extra vise and knew that Dad wanted one sooooooooooo, I packed up the Record in the trunk and took it to him today. I knew that he wanted a small vise and that was the smallest of the three that I had.

While I was there he wanted me to take his Sears jack home with me (it is too heavy for him to get from the shed to the garage) and find him a lighter weight aluminum jack to get his mower into the air. The only thing he does now is sharpen the mower blades. Everything else that needs doing on the mower or that needs to be done to the cars, I do for him.

That jack has been out in the shed for several years and the paint is not the best. It has the standard green body and white handle and saddle that all of the older Japanese made Sears floor jacks have. Does anyone here know the paint code for that green paint or know of a close match to the color? I don't have to re-do it but just wanted it to look a little nicer when he comes to visit as he is always asking what I have done with his tools. Everytime I see one in need of a cleaning/repaint, I bring it home, clean it up and take it back to him.

I know that he will be looking for what I have done to this jack in a month or so.....

Secondly, does anyone have any ideas for the best light weight aluminum jack that is dependable? The capacity does not need to be very great as the only thing it will lift is a 900 pound or so mower. The main thing is that needs to be light. Dad is 88 years old and does well for his age but does not need to be tugging around on a heavy jack anymore....:)

Probably an American made by Blackhawk. I have one that used to be green and white. Its now red and black. Big square lift pad, cast iron caster supports on the back, one piece handle held in by a knurled screw. Green is similar to the green used on Champion compressors. No idea of a color code.

Charles i found one of your earlier threads and is the this the jack that you said was a sears?

blackhawk.jpg

Unless those Blackhawk jacks were made by Americans in Japan, they are Japanese made. The sticker has "Made In Japan" all over it.

I have a Craftsman bottle jack that's made in China. Go figure...

It's actually the best jack I've ever owned, but their Jack Stands...HA!

I won't buy Craftsman jack stands anymore. I bought a set and they were so cheap looking and ackward to work with, I took them back and bought a comparable pair of Duralast from Autozone that, in my view, are much, much, much better.

I'm a true and blue Craftsman fan, but don't buy their jack stands.

My dad has one of those sears jacks, it's an odd darker green and might even have a bit of metal flake in it. I believe he bought it in the 70's, it's always been an excellent jack but could use new seals now and a paint job as well.

Please post the color code if you find something.

Well, I'll try again, first attempt at a long drawnout reply got lost in neverland when the internet connection was lost.

The red jack in the pic is the Sears jack. It was green and white when new, I repainted it red to match jackstands and my red Mustang, many years ago. Bought the jack NEW 12/28/73. It is a Model 727.12101. Inside the original manual that I have, is a Blackhawk breakdown sheet for SJ-1 and SJ-2 from Beerman Precision who made the seal kit used by the shop that rebuilt the hydraulics in '93 for me. From comparing the parts list, and that the Sears manual says to set the relief at 3200 lbs +/- 200 lb, it is apparently a 1-1/2 ton SJ-1 model (always thought it was more than that).

I have a neighbor who has an immaculate original green/white identical to mine, bought about the same time.

The green is the same as THIS COMPRESSOR of mine, which was bought about the same time or a little earlier.

Hmm Learn something new every day, I never knew sears sold Blackhawk jacks and or painted them Green. Crazy... I have a breakdown of those serial numbers starting with 727.12101 and they have always been for the Japanese made import designed identical to KCarguys below. Charles could you do me a favor and take a picture of the serial number on that jack and the badge. It would greatly be apreciated.

Here is a view of the side plate. You can see the green in one patch near the top of the plate. Jack needs stripping and painting completely. I did a pretty good job of covering it with red, even in the hidden spots.

Data plate appears to be stamped wrong, its says 727.2101. The instruction manual says 727.12101. Appears that they left the leading one off. Serial is EM36538 if you have a hard time reading it. Was difficult to get a decent pic. Clearly says "Made in USA" on the bottom of the data plate.

Blue tape is covering up my old name/address plate that I put on everything. Sears had an offer with the toolboxes, you could get the plates made for a dollar each so I had a bunch made and riveted them on everything.

What is funny about these older jacks is that the 1 1/2 ton dwarfs the 2 1/2 ton Chinese made Torin out in the garage. Not to mention that it will lift about 3 inches higher than the new one and out weighs it by maybe 20 pounds.

Thanks for posting Charles, I think im getting my Model numbers mixed up. Without a doubt yours is Blackhawk oriented, Ive just never seen a Sears retail version. I wonder if they where offering the Japanese version at the same time you bought yours? I know the Jap versions where very popular in the 70's. Anyway thanks again..

Hi,
First time poster on Garage Journal...longtime lurker.

Just bought a big Sears green & white Japanese jack at a garage sale for $75. I have been looking for a HW or Walker for a long time. This one seems quite capable.

Is there a paint code for the green? I would like to clean it up.

This jack has "three on the tree"!

I got this exact same jack when I lived in California. I used to just drive around neighborhoods just looking for stuff people had put on the curb. Well, I saw this jack and a cheapie sitting next to their garbage cans, but not by the curb. So I went up to the door and asked if they were being tossed. The nice lady said "Yes, take it away" with a smile. I was so happy, because my older brother had one while I was growing up and knew it was of good quality. Unfortunately he was just killed in an explosion at a waste water treatment plant, so now every time I see it, it reminds me of him. Anyway, I miss living in California, people throw out so much cool stuff. Especially on their big garbage days. Only problem there is that there not much room to store accumulated stuff. Most likely why people have to toss it. It's a vicious circle.:dunno:

Geen and white. Definitely made in Japan (not China).

Its now red and black. Big square lift pad, ...

Nope the old green ones have large circular lift pads. Mine has to be over 40 years old and works great since I lubed the external pivot points ! There were no obvious leaks, but it needed a couple of ounces of hydraulic fluid.

I worked for Sears for many years in the Service Dept parts department. The Sears 1 1/2 ton 727.12101 floor jacks were made by Blackhawk for Sears. Whe Sears started trying to compete with overseas brands they went to the Model number prefix beginning with the 328. prefix. These were made in China or Japan. The 727. jacks were a metalflake green with a white handle. I have two of them and need to get them repaired but can't seem to lacate a shop in the Dallas area that still works on them.

I bought a jack from a rebuilder in Wisconsin (no name) and have regretted it since the day I got it.

Any ideas were I might find a repair shop that stands behind their work?

A possible idea for your father is the lawn mower jacks that you drive the two wheels on and jack it up. Looks pretty simple, don't know about the weight though

This green Sears 1 1/2 ton was among the last of the US models, my Dad bought it in the mid 70's when he worked for Sears.

Sorry-
Meant to add that the color looks similar to "Wilton green", I think there is a Verde green Rustoleum out there that matches.

I bought my 1.5 ton sears floor jack in 1981 to lift my '79 F150. Truck color was green - "Dark Jade metallic". It was real close to the green on the jack, but had metallic flake in it. Jack would look great with the flake!!! An auto body paint store could mix up a pint for you.

When i bought my sears floor jack in 1981, it very closely matched the color of my ford pickup. Ithard some metallic flake in it. Try ford'79 dark jade metallic paint. Go to an auto body shop paint store for it

For what it's worth on this very dated thread, the color that I found that most closely matches the original color green on the older Sears (Japanese made) floor jacks is made by TESTORS, GREEN METALLIC FLAKE ENAMEL SPRAY PAINT. I've seen it identified by 1630 and 1630T. It comes in a 3oz can which is pretty small. Took me 4 cans to repaint the whole jack. The center of the photo, about 4" around the hole in the plate is a test spray. Given some sun bleaching of the old paint it's pretty much spot on.20230118_144937.jpg
