I have a 32 x 40 block detached garage and it has never been painted. What kind of paint should I use to paint it? I noticed that commercial buildings like Walmart never peel. I know there are epoxies but are there other good choices?

I had the inside of my garage painted. They used some sort of block primer that is thicker and fills in the small irregularities in the block. For the larger holes and cracks they used bondo. On top of that they used regular paint. Turned out great.

Interior or exterior? We used a sherwin Williams product called Loxon for the exterior block walls at the industrial facility I work at, apparently it was the same stuff they used for the Target stores up here in Canada.
Interior we used a heavy duty block filler, also from Sherwin Williams.

Use a "block" primer. Then any good quality latex paint.

Airless sprayer works well or a long nap roller. You will still need a brush to fill in the voids. Airless or shorter nap roller on the finish coat.

The term is "block filler". Just about any manufacturer. Put that coat on heavy. The goal is to fill all the pinholes.

Then put one or two solid coats of exterior acrylic. Use a name brand, not the box store. Sherwin Williams, Pittsburgh, Benjamin Moore etc. Professional products.

Make sure you backroll. Spray alone will not fill the pin holes worth Jack if this is virgin block.

I used a SW block filler and SW Duration paint. It's been 5 years and it looks like the day I painted.
