Paint for garage interior that doesn’t ****

So we moved a couple years back and I’m needing to paint the interior of my garage(finished painted Sheetrock). Normally I’d go to my usual Easy living bathroom paint( I sometimes prep car parts in it so wet sanding and polishing happen thus bathroom paint is a bit more forgiving with that) but that’s no longer an option(unless it’s rebranded and I haven’t found out). Any suggestions on what brands are good and aren’t going to break the bank? I’m rolling it since I have all my equipment, project car, bikes, parts and boxes in it and can’t really cover or roll everything out to spray it.

No idea what “easy living bathroom paint” might be. It doesn’t see, to be a brand name. I just used my preferred brand of interior paint on the walls of my garage. Seems to be holding up fine.

The best high durability paint I have found is Scuff-X by Benjamin Moore. It holds up great in my stairway and on some painted shelves. Not cheap though… With my small discount it runs around $70 a gallon.

That’s a good question. If it’s already got a couple coats on it, a premium paint will cover quite nicely. Maybe 400 sq. ft./gallon depending on the degree of color change

Nope. You're going to pay for good. Plenty of brands to choose from - they all make cheap paint and good paint.. Price is how you tell the difference.

My recommendations:

1st) Local manufacturer
2nd) Sherwin Williams
3rd) Home Depot

Oh, and BTW, those are recommendations of where to buy - not specific brands...

Easy living was sears/osh house branded paint.
I’ve used the high end sw paint(diamond something or other when I repainted our other house’s whole interior, it was just regular interior paint(not bathroom) I honestly wasn’t to impressed with it since it seemed to wear and peel around corners really easily compared to the sears paint I originally painted it with. That said, after digging around a bit it seems like sw may have been the supplier of easy living. So who knows.
Yeah, it’s a finished Sheetrock that is currently painted but I’m trying to get a brighter white and something fairly mold resistant. Wet sanding happens, hence the ‘bathroom paint’ since it’s supposed to be for humid areas. I’m not flooding the place by any means, but it’s what I’ve used before and worked well.

I don't understand the hatred for Behr paint. It is all we use, but we use just thier high end stuff.

I assume the hatred comes from using the low end **** which ***** no matter the brand.

Youtube channel Project Farm has legit testing of all kinds of products. Well, not sure if he has done cat food.
But he has tested paint. And you should find his paint test videos; worth your time.

I’m a fan of Ace brand paints. Always has a high rating for color intensity. I’d go their cheapest exterior semi gloss called Royal. Still close to $20 gallon on sale. A thick bodied paint

Ideally you're looking for a commercial grade epoxy paint that will hold up incredibly well. Benjamin Moore makes some good commercial paints, including V342 Corotech Pre-Catalyzed Waterborne Epoxy paint.

Occasionally you can find gallons of this stuff on the cheap from your local Habitat For Humanity/Restore.... especially if you're in an area with a lot of commercial buildings/malls that are being updated (they donate the leftover cans to Habitat for a tax credit).

Retail on these things are like $85 CAD per gallon and I pick them up at Habitat for Humanity for $20.

NOTE,.. they have a tintable white base that looks good on its own... or you can buy some pigment and mix your own paint soup in a 5 gallon pail.

Any "name brand", semi-gloss paint is probably adequate. Just remember, latex paint takes about 30 days to fully "cure" before you can actually wash it.

Sherwin Williams is good, but expensive !

Anything exterior satin or semigloss around the $35-$40 will be fine for a garage interior.

I've had excellent results with the Glidden brand, gold colored can in satin. SW A100 is pretty good as well as anything Valspar in the price range (painted some CMU exterior with some weatherguard or something and it's good and reasonably priced. The Signature or Reserve lines are pretty good, but more expensive.)

I wouldn't use anything high end in a garage that's gonna get scuffed or marred anyways. Sounds like you actually do real work in there.

For the house garage which is insulated but not geated/cooled, I used some Glidden or Behr exterior paint on the osb walls which were primed with Kilz oil based first.

A person can pay between $10/ and $130/gallon for interior latex. Armed with the "you get what you pay for" postulate, you can make your choice about how high on the hog you wish to coat.

Cheap Paint is not Good, Good Paint is not Cheap.
I buy Better Quality Paint for my rentals, top quality is beyond my budget, Cheap Paint is a waste of time and money.
I buy my paint in 5 gallon buckets, all my rentals are Egg Shell Whisper White except for kitchens, they get Semi Gloss.
All paint gets boxed before application, that way every wall matches the one next to it.

I think Benjamin Moore makes that Royal product. Ace can get a good many of the BM paints.
