To the best of my knowledge there are many "Good" paints, the service from your local supplier makes a difference.

Is acrylic a good base to use for an exterior paint?

I used Dutch Boy Max Bond. Has held up well. Water beads up on it when it gets rained on.

Any exterior painting I've done recently has been with SW superpaint acrilic latex. I think the duration is supposed to be a little better but less forgiving on application.

If you have bare wood always use an oil base primer. Don't listen to anyone who says not to.

The sheets were factory painted from when they were purchased at Home Depot years ago

SW duration has lifetime warranty as long as you own it. Hard to get much better than that. I've never used it though.

The most important thing is prep. Wash the building with Dawn and a soft brush and rise well. Once good and dry, use a quality acrylic latex paint. Typically with paint, you get what you pay for. I have been satisfied with Valspar's best exterior paint. It has been on my house for 20 + years and still looks good, but it is on fiber cement, which holds paint well and is white, so fading isn't an issue.
