I picked up some free & cheap metal cabinets over the last few weeks, for my garage. Looking for a few more still.

A couple of them have light to moderate rust. I was planning to paint them anyway, so I figure I'd clean them up. I could wire brush them, and then paint, but I'm also considering using a product like this:
http://store.interstateproducts.com/1_step_rust_killer_1gal?sc=2&category=7624

or this

http://www.rustoleum.com/CBGProduct.asp?pid=150

I'm sure some of you have experience with products like this. Any recommendations? Great products? worthless products? Best bang for the buck?

thanks in advance.

My cabinets in my shop are nothing pretty or anything but when I painted mine (mainly so they were all one color and help lighten the walls) I just wiped 'em down with laquer thinner and sprayed them.... rust and all!! About 5 years later they still look good.

Rustoleum makes a very good "rusty metal" primer. I had some very rusty conduit pipe (exterior) that I used it on then a regular rustoleum for the top coat. Did the job about 4 years ago and it looks like I painted it yesterday.
