Paint Gun Recomendation

I am redoing the rockers and lower front fenders (base and clear) (not part of the hood) on my 90 Corvette. I saw this an would like some input. http://www.eastwoodco.com/shopping/...T&iMainCat=1339&iSubCat=1354&iProductID=17069 Any other recomendations would be appreciated.

My buddy paints cars as a p/t job with Iwata guns. I just started renewing my interest in painting after 20+ years due to wife and kids. This is the gun combo I got and will be using it when the weather gets warmer.

That Devilbiss is an excellent all around gun for the money, plus they are easy to get spare or extra parts for. I got one back in 97 and it still sprays just like it did out of the box.

I agree with gotmud13613, the Devilbliss is a good all around gun. Unless you are painting for a living you don't need a SATA or IWATA. If you want to blow a lot of money just to have the best you won't be disappointed with the IWATA or SATA. I would go with a Devilbliss or a SATA midrange priced guns. Whatever you do don't get the cheapies.

A lot of people will disagree with this. If you are only going to use the gun every now and then you can do a god paint job with the $75 gun from Lowes. I bought one to spray primer on my bike and car parts. My buddy who uses a SATA and is a very good painter decided to use it to spray my bike one day when his gun was unaccessable. He did a killer job and said the gun wasn't that bad. The bike looks killer. Ofcourse we did a lot of wetsanding and polishing. But im happy.

I use a Sata 3000 HVLP w/ a 1.4 mm tip for both base and clear, and it works awesome. Before that i used a Sata 90-2 HVLP with 1.3mm tip, which now has been reduced to door jamb and under hood painting duty.

The 2007 M5 i painted came out pretty nice

m3 how do you filter your air when you paint, I painted a lot of cars when I was younger, never had to deal with the base /clear, I mostly worried about the voc in the clear coat

^ There is a wall mounted filter in the shop and i use an air/water separator on the gun its-self too. Never had any problems.

lol I was asking about air quality in the area your painting in. I don't think you have a spray booth I'm worried about the isocyanatesin the clear how do you protect yourself from them

lmao... sorry about that, i was in a bit of a rush when i responded. i use a 3m half mask.
You are correct, i dont have a spray booth, but a big fan by an open door works wonders Between that, and the mask, it doesn't get too bad.... thats if i remember to wear the mask.

You could probably use a roller and still sand it out... but who wants to spend that much time wet sanding and polishing

..this guy painted a car with Rustoleum and a roller, and did a ton of sanding but you'd be surprised how well it turned out!
