I am going to paint kitchen cabinet doors with paint gun (3M spray gun, model 16580). It requires approximately 10 CFM. The maximum pressure is 20 PSI.

I have a Husky 30 gallon air compressor 1.6 horsepower, 155 max. pressure. The SCFM (not sure what "S" means) is 6.2 at 40 PSI and 5.3 at 90 PSI.

Let's say if I adjust the pressure to around 15-20 PSI, the CFM should increase to, maybe 9 or 10 CFM, correct?

The spray gun is HVLP (High Volume, Low Pressure).

Thanks

With 30 gallons of air you may find yourself spraying a door or two at a time and waiting for the tank to refill. Don’t take on any large projects with that setup.

I am going to use General Finishes Milk Paint (white paint). I understand that I will need to add some water to the paint (to make it a bit thinner) before spraying. Will that work with LVLP gun?

I think so but never sprayed milk paint before. The gun I posted comes with a 1.3mm tip which is probably too small for paint. They sell 1.5mm and 2.0mm tips for that gun which I would imagine would be more than enough. Should check with the paint manufacturer to be sure. Good luck.

More info on that gun. (There are many others this is just an example).

LVLP is new to me. Can that Sprayit handle epoxy primers and other thick stuff? There is video of a guy using one at 10psi. I see it comes with several tips.
