Paint ideas?

I finally got my 2-car man-cave all cleared out. I have since built a nice workbench area, and even wired up some internet, tv, etc etc. Now Im looking to paint the walls up a bit. I'd love to see some photo's of your paint jobs for some ideas. Thanks!

Or, a different direction. Green, tan and yellow, but not bright versions of those. More retro.

Here are some pictures of my shop. I also prefer the two tone look. The dark color seems to hide marks better than the white, but with the white on top it still stays bright. The blue is a royal blue, although my camera made it look purple.

@ jtillery - How do you like the racedeck for a working shop environment? I like the ease of install etc. but I'm worried about actually working on it and spilling oil on it etc. Thinking of going with VCT tile.

Simple answer - Go with the RaceDeck you won't regret it. For a 24x24 garage it probably will only cost $250-$300 more than VCT (with adhesive) and is much easier to install and will hold up better. If you floor isn't perfect underneath, it will show through the VCT. The RaceDeck will hide all kinds of imperfections, I have several baseball size potholes in my floor that we didn't fix and you would never know it.

As far as spilling oil, I have had large oil, coolant, power steering fluid and transmission fluid spills on my floor. Many sat for 2 weeks or more. I just pick up the spilled fluid with paper towels and mop the floor with a 50/50 water/Simple Green mix and it looks like new.

The only way you are going to damage the RaceDeck is if you drop hot metal on it or put alot of weight in a very small area. I use a regular floor jack and jack stands all the time directly on the floor and haven't damaged it yet.

I can give you more detailed info if you want, just let me know. My floor sees alot more abuse than most members here. Cars/motorcycles are moved in and out daily, I move heavy equipment on small casters on it, run a forklift on it, have several lifts directly on top, and my tire changing equipment, air compressor, workbenches, shelving, etc sit directly on top.

A few pieces of advice if you go RaceDeck. The graphite and alloy colors hide the dirt alot better than the black, blue or red I have. Also make sure when you order it you tell them you are a Garage Journal member and they will give you a discount, it is much more affordable than you may think.

I went with the REVolution which is the stronger version since I run a forklift on it several times per week. I think it is still overkill for my use though. I think the regular RaceDeck would hold up just as well, especially in a personal garage.

Here's a short time line progress report on mine... still need Tins, HD Neon Clock, Neon HD Sign, and would like to pick up an old Coca Cola vending machine if I get the right deal... I am going to put some Corrugated Tin panels on the front of my cabinet doors. It'll break up some of the large door area.
I did a Behrs Gray Primer, Then Behrs Gray, Behrs Black, Behrs Orange Stripe. I'm going to do something inside the stripe not sure yet... True Fire or HD Bar & Shield Emblem stencil...

Thanks... I'm about three weeks into it. I took a weeks vacation to work on it and got a lot done since. Now I spend an hour or two each evening just tinkering... that soon became an issue with my better half. So now I get up a few hours early - cut on the space heater and hang out / mill around / reorganize every morning. It seems to have cut down on the complaints that way...

I went with light grey on the walls and ceiling. The sliding soffit doors are medium grey, and the trim is all black. The red on the lower part of the walls is a pure base. It was the most 'red' paint I could get my hands on. The red was a bit much in the empty garage until I installed the cabinets and all my tools, etc. The countertops have a black marble look. They were the cheapest 'black' countertops I could find. lol Overall, I'm really happy with how it turned out.

jtillery, regarding the RaceDeck.......any issues with moisture under the flooring material?

I haven't pulled any of mine up yet, but I don't see how there could be any moisture problems with the RaceDeck design. The majority of the water just sits on top, hydrostatic tension only allows a little water to seep through. There are drainage channels built into the bottom of the tiles though, so any water that would get through would just drain off just as it would if no tiles where there.

I had considered a chair molding when I started painting, but decided against it. I think it would look too busy and cluttered with a chair molding betweeen the backsplash and the outlets.

True that's definately a possibility. OT question... who makes the computer setup you're suing to control the LS7 in your car? Is it a stand alone or a modified GM PCM/BCM setup?

I'm using an GM E38 with a custom harness. I use EFI Live to tune it, along with an AutoMeter 2 1/16 wide band O2 gauge I have built into the dash.

The custom wiring harness part... I followed your build thread on ls1tech but can't remember. Was curious b/c I have a buddy tossing around the idea of putting a LS7 in a 740iL BMW and making a "770"

I sprayed it heavy on top with Behr Black Gloss paint... I would rather it filled in a bit more so I'm kicking around the idea of some type of heavy coat for the top. Like a roll on bed liner but I like the gloss for cleaning. My cabinet doors are soon to be fitted with some Corrugated Panels.

Wow.....ALL very impressive designs! My walls are just plain dirty white right now. I have a bit of spackle to do, as there are many holes and marks in the sheetrock walls. My wife just mentioned doing the walls John Deere green and yellow? I'll consider it for now! Again....amazing photos guys! I'll have to take some photos of my space to share.
