Paint overspray on my new epoxy floor

So I just finished putting epoxy-coat down on my 60 x 40 shop and it looks good. At least up until the point the painters came in and left a **** load of overspray everywhere. They told me it is a water based paint and just to hose it out. I hosed it off and it left a thin film all over my floor so it doesnt have the shine it did. I tried power washing, mopping, squeegeeing, and the painters even came back and hand wiped the whole floor with some dirt x stuff and the floor still looks like it has streaks of film all over it. Does anyone know a good way to get this stuff off? I pushed a lightly damp towel around on a broom and that seemed to help but there's still film streaks everywhere. It just seems like its just smearing it around instead of picking up the mess. thanks

What type of epoxy did you use? Isn't the point of having an epoxy floor to avoid stains from spills of chemicals and paints? Many are used by municipalities because graffiti can be washed off with no loss of appearance.

I would get the name of the paint manufacturer and call them. Otherwise, I'd make the painters deal with it.

Paint will stain epoxy...especially if its not full cured....try a small section with a damp rag of ventured alcohol, mineral spirits, acetone and or xylene, until you find one that works. Be careful though...don't use too much, it could soften up and or haze. Worse case scenario, you may need to sand, solvent wipe and re coat. If that's the case, the sloppy painters should pay for it.

+1 Be careful with xylene, especially.

Epoxy floors will maintain a static charge for some time. The overspray can sometimes stick like crazy. You push it around but it is hard to remove for a few days. Give it some time and traffic and let's hope it clears before doing another coat or hazing it with solvents. Good luck:thumbup:

If it is fully cured, you can take a piece of carpet and use it under a floor sander to polish the floor.

It seems like that static charge might be it cause it will come up on my fingers if I rub them on the floor but when i try anything to wipe it up it just pretty much smears it around. It's been 2 or 3 weeks since i put it down so I'm not sure if it still has a charge. I'll see if i can find a floor buffer or something for rent and try that. thx

The buffer is if it is stuck. If it wipes with your finger, then don't use the buffer. Hose it again in a small area and see what happens. Give it time and it will not haunt you later.
