I probably have mentioned this before but this thread is as good a place as any to mention it again... When you add a hardener to ANY paint, the paint now includes the hazards of the hardener which are isocyanates. This can be nasty stuff and even though you get away with using it with no apparent side effects, I'm told the exposure tends to be cumulative in its' effect and there's a possibility of sensitization and nerve damage. Please use the correct gear when working with this stuff.

I have never had good luck with foam brushes or rollers. The best roller cover is one that has been used and washed (even with oil) so it is soft and lint free. For **** jobs or primer, we would use a new roller cover and then clean it and it would be ready for finish work. 9" roller covers were lamb's wool and did not shed much even when new. For 3-6 inch 1/4 and 3/8 nap rollers we used the best that HD or the paint stores had.

Thinning the paint does help it to flow and expecting to get great results with a single coat is just not reasonable. Sometimes you get away with it, but two coats was always better.

After hearing about tractor paint and hardener working so well, even with a brush or roller, I bought some for a project but haven't gotten around to using it yet.

I'm glad to hear you made some progress and saved some time and effort while still getting a nice finish.
