i have some paint I bought for a project I have not gotten to.

just wondering how long it is good for. I have two 5 gal. buckets unopened 1 oil base, 1 latex, and 1- 5 gal. bucket half empty.

should I just toss them or will I be able to mix and still use?

going to guess they have been sitting for 4 years now.

Take them to someone that has a shaker. I think they will be fine if shaken very very well.

If they are sealed closed, they should be fine for a while. I've used paint after a few years and not really had a problem.

If I opened a can and the top had a cured skim on it, I either break through or try to pull it out, stir it up and use it.

It’s probably ok. Get it shaken and smell it. Seriously. If it stinks like something other than paint, don’t use it. If it’s a little thick you can thin it out with water for the water base and paint thinner for the oil based.

Agreed. After building a home and storing the paint for later touch up, I have used some of it 15 yrs later and it was still good....just so long as it was sealed well when first stored.

Don`t know where you live but if it`s latex and stored where it has frozen it`s no good anymore.
