I’m wanting to paint my red iron this is out under my lean. It’s just showing a lot of fading right now. What type of paint would be best for this? Would an exterior enamel hold up longer than a latex based paint? I know I’ll be doing this again just would like to put something on it that’s going to hold up to weather better. Thanks for your help.

I only use oil base on red iron. I've seen lots of rust running down latex paint jobs on red iron. It actually devalues the building IMO.

I used enamel on mine back in 2011, new build. Has held up pretty well. Flaked off on the areas where it was factory welded. Weird, as it had the red paint on it from the factory like the rest of the beam. I Just need to get up there and scuff and respray it.
A few areas are showing rust seeping thru the enamel in the rafters.

Thanks for the input, I thought that would be the way to go.
