Got the 2nd coat of mud on yesterday. The finish coat will be on next Saturday, so there's a chance that I could start painting on Sunday!

The ceiling is white steel, and I want to paint the drywall the same color. I wanted opinions on the sheen. Eggshell, semi-gloss, satin? Probably not flat.
Will be using latex, and spraying.

Thanks!

Sw superpaint has a new sheen...velvet mabye? In between flat and semi. Durable/cleanable, not glossy. Rolls well. Can't speak to spray -ability. Slightly less than cashmere low luster. Looked good in my daughters bathroom.

my entire shop is a whiteish semigloss. the painter tried to talk me out of it because it shows the imperfections of the drywaller. they did an incredible job and i would not have anything else. i have a 20' ceiling in a 65x70 shop, all drywalled. it looks amazing.

btw, i painted the outside of the building with semi gloss (stucco) and it is great. it is much easier to wash down. i will paint my house stucco semigloss next time.

I've had the best luck with satin. Enough gloss to clean up easily, enough light reflective capability without glare.

I went high gloss (white and grey) Love it and it cleans up perfectly.

The hanging and taping was done by a pro, so shouldn't be too many imperfections to stick out. Nice looking walls up there, guys.

For anyone that sprayed, did you bother to backroll? I can see doing it in the little (8x12) office area, but the shop?

In a storage garage shiny = good bc the reflections will give it a false sense of being brighter than it is. In a working garage duller is definitely better bc youre going to have tons of bright lights and you dont want reflections creating glare.

Good points. Definitely a working garage. Won't be storing didley.
Was almost set on semi-gloss. Now not so sure.:eyecrazy:

Whatever is cheapest, or in the clearance bin. Walls will get dusty, and covered with tools/ junk, I don't worry too much about sheen, or even color.

If there's a choice, semi. Easier to wipe down.

I just got done mudding my new garage. I had some help with the mudding and tapping but I quickly realized I was lacking on my drywall skills. After a few coats, more than most people would use, I got it looking pretty good.
With that said I'm using flat white (maybe satin) on the ceiling and semi gloss on the walls so they will be easier to clean. I also plan on putting a slight orange peel on the walls but nothing too crazy.
I figure its a garage, not a million dollar house.

I back roll everything, one person spraying the other back rolls works the best.

I give a light spray only to the taped seams and corners everywhere then do the first coat with back roll.

I tried spray only a couple times... went back to rolling it.

Just did some satin in a bathroom. It's still got a fair amount of sheen to it -- just a slight step below semi-gloss.

Im a commercial painter. I just did mine with SW A-100 Gloss. Wish it was even shinier. Maybe ill try epoxy and urethane next time. Use exterior paint. Itll hold up to washing better. Also better color retention. Fluorescent light fades paint big time. Interior paint doesnt handle freeze/thaw well... Not sure if your heating or not

Yes, it will never be below 35+ degrees.

Thanks
