Hey guys, could y'all recommend a paint stripper that is safe for use on brass? I'm looking for a chemical, spray-on, wash-off type (no bead blasting or flap disc suggestions, please). It's got to be available in your standard can at the local auto parts place (no pro stuff).

Having my house repainted. The current numbers are quality solid brass. Currently painted. Need to be stripped and repainted.

Thanks for the help!

I use spray gun cleaner used for cleaning paint guns to remove overspray and paint on the hitch covers we manufacture. It works good on any metal with little problems. I buy it by the gallon not sure if they you can get a smaller amount.

I used CitriStrip on our door parts in the old house. Not a spray - I put the pieces on heavy duty aluminum foil and used a cheap brush. Let it soak, then wash off. Used it on old parts from the 20s including fancy brass door plates. No damage. Not expensive either.

Thanks for the ideas, guys.

First, I did the boiling detergent. Boy, did that ****. Scraping is for losers.

Ran out and got some Zip Strip. Worked like a charm. Fast too.
