It does stick out like a sore thumb. Hopefully you can get a nice finish if you decide to paint.
You could paint everything else in red.

I agree with above it does kinda stick out there. If that the color theme you plan on going with that painting in would look good. I would paint the box first than the drawers. This would be keep box in unusable state for the least amount of time being you can always pull a drawer or 2 out here or there until you finish them all.

Since its a newer tool box...I'd say paint it to match the newage cabinets. If it were an old vintage box, I would have said to leave the patina...

Just my two cents.

Definitely two tone like cabinets. There is the new duplicolor removal coating you can experiment with. I used it on a hood and works as advertised.

I think the contrasting colors give the garage a little pop. Lots of work to repaint it, and the new finish will never be as good as the original.

You could paint if you have time. It would look good if it matched the cabinets. It won't be as easy as it sounds to do it right.

I would paint the case of the tool box black, and the doors of all the other cabinets in there red... :lol_hitti

I've got the same situation - red tool box that sits on top of a black tool chest, dark grey cabinets. I'm in the process of garage redo and plan to install upper cabinets - paint the boxes the same dark grey with red doors. Maybe there is something else in the garage you could paint red that would balance it out and keep that pop of color

ASK THE TOOLS.. I've always figured if the tools don't complain then all is good. I always seem to have more important things to do than worry if I need to redecorate or my fung shuey is correct. ;)
