Sorry if this seems like a dumb question but I was just wondering. Doing rust bullet in the gray but before I put the top clear coat on I want to paint lines in the floor. What painters tape is best suited to this. I want nice sharp lines. Ive heard duct tape ,blue tape. but realize the gray will have to be realitively dry before I put tape on it. After I paint the lines it will have to come up without pulling the fresh coat of rust bullet.

2nd question should you use resperator on the gray rustbullet and the clear coat or just the clear coat. Thanks in advance!

I wouldn't use duct tape, too aggressive and expensive. Never done an epoxy floor but would imagine the blue painters tape would be fine.

Blue painters tape worked for me. My floor is white U-Coat-It but I would guess it would work on Rust Bullet too. If in doubt, contact Rust Bullet or your Rust Bullet distributor.

If the floor isn't completely smooth, you are likely to get bleed through in the little dips and bumps. whatever tape you use, make sure it is pressed down very well...a rubber roller would help with that.

I've read for nice sharp lines to put your tape on, then coat the edges with your base coat colour, let it dry then do your contrast colour. The base coat seals the gaps etc on the tape .
not sure how hard it would be getting off the tape after all dried tho.
just my 2cents

easlers - NOT at all a dumb question.

It shows you have previously gained knowledge, possible had heartache.

I've been there, done that, more than once.

Or at least very wise to be cautious, cause definitely this is a great example of a thing where baddd things can happen.

I would definately stay away from duct tape as others have said , could lift previous work, and if cheap jineez ****, could leave residue, specially in hot weather.

Use the blue tape, rub or roll down as said above, BUT - most important thing - Try- test in an out of regular view spot like overnight.

I would just rub down firmly with an old terry cloth washcloth, myself.

Test for stuff like lifting or in any way screwing up what it's stuck to, becoming "unstuck" and allowing seepage underneath, etc.

AND - Probably pull the tape right after application of top coat while it is still wet, NOT the next day.

Repeat - AND - Probably pull the tape right after application of top coat while it is still wet, NOT the next day.

RIGHT ??

Lastly - I do not know about the product you are using, but I do have varied finishing experience.

Make SURE you follow the Mfgr re coat time WINDOW restrictions if any.

Totally can vary between products.

Or could be a world of hurt otherwise.

Adhesion between coats issues.

Possible wrinkling, delamination, only God knows the **** that can happen.

If taping then using a small roller to go over the tape edges with another layer of the gray Rust Bullet is ok to do this^^ will give you near perfect results. At least that has been my experience on walls.
