Going to be painting my shop soon and probably painting my new garage door a different color than the factory white. If you painted your door (mine's metal) did you prime it, sand it, or just paint over it? If so, do you know if latex paint is ok to use? Thanks for any input!!

When I painted mine I just cleaned it real good and just painted it with latex paint to match what I was painting the siding. I never sanded or primed the door and in the 5 yrs I was at that house I never saw any coming off.

Just clean and paint. Use regular exterior latex house paint, spray or brush will do the job just fine.

If the door has been installed a while, I would wash it down with a mild detergent to remove dirt and let it dry completely. Degrease as required. Inspect for rust. If rust, sand and prime with a rust inhibitor. Then its on to the first coat of paint - exterior latex. You'll probably have to do as least two coats - three if going to a dark color.
