Painting a Kennedy box

So I was cruising the Kennedy site as I do occasionally when I get an itch for something (In this case, a versa-cart for my 5-drawer+side box because it's difficult to move about since I have a granite plate on the side box) and I noticed the 100th anniversary boxes Kennedy has right now.

What's so special, you ask?

A black wrinkle finish and black felt liners.

Alas, they only have two 100th anniversary boxes, a 46" roller cabinet w/ canopy and a 7 drawer machinists chest. I, however, must have this finish. The brown wrinkle has bugged me since I got into this trade 10 years ago, and the red is worse. I see that Kennedy has black wrinkle touch up paint at an insane $37 a can.

Does any one have any suggestions on how I could go about doing this? Can wrinkle be sprayed from a sprayer? (Which would let me disassemble the box and take it to a paint shop)

The other option is the touch up paint seems to be 'Precision Color', which if the site Google sends me to is to be believed is by a company called Raabe Co.. I figure I could call them up and order a few cans maybe.

I've seen flat black lightly misted into the wrinkle. YMMV.

I've used over 8 cans of their wrinkle spray in Brown and can report not all of it is the same exact color. I called their customer service line and reported this issue and they sent me two more cans, which were a different tone of brown. Next time I'll sand the thing down and spray with extreme green or something else.

I've sprayed black wrinkle paint that came in a rattle can at the hardware store. Maybe $6 a can or so. The secret (if you read the directions), is to apply heat as it's drying. You need a heat gun, and the right amount of heat causes the wrinkles to appear. More heat = finer wrinkles. You need to practice a bit, as the finish thickness makes a difference in how the wrinkles come out (consistency is not so easy).

I've dealt with Raabe before. Probably not a good way to go, but it's worth giving them a call and asking. The will NOT provide paint in whatever quantity/type you ask for. They contract with companies to provide paint exactly as specified. If the company asked for pens, then that's all that they can sell you. Typically their paint pens are only good at concealing a scratch, and not refinishing anything larger than a dime.

I was having trouble moving my Kennedy box when it got loaded heavy. I considered the versa-cart, but installed better casters instead. The 6" x 2" ball bearing casters and floor lock were purchased from eBay for about $60. 3/4" x 4" steel plates mount to the existing caster holes through counterbored holes. The plates also attach to the original caster location on the right and to the side box. The new casters mount to threaded holes in the plates.

I used the spray paint from Kennedy to paint the plates. Not an exact match, but still looks OK.

It rolls easily, but you have to be careful not to get going very fast or stopping is a challenge. The floor lock keeps it from moving unintentionally.

About the same treatment for my second box. Scrap 3/4" plates were used. The casters are from Surplus Center and the floor lock was purchased on eBay.

DynoDale I see you used Cap Head bolts, those are case hardened, which if you roll that box over a lot of cracks / seams / bumps you may want to go to Grade 5 or Grade 8 standard bolts.
