Just purchased a Raynor raised panel clay color garage door and discovered it does not match my Morton beige shed. Any advice on painting it.

I took a piece of the morton shed to Sherwin Williams to get in color matched.

THanks

Be sure to clean it really well and you will be fine. A little rubbing alcohol will be sure to get any grease or oil off. Then be sure the conditions are right, not too warm or cold and not too humid, those conditions are listed on the paint can.

I have an older Stanley steel door that was only available in off-white. The instructions said if you want to paint it you have to etch the factory paint with "Liquid Sandpaper". My wife had it painted and they did not treat it so it peeled and looks awful. Read those instructions!

Mine was painted quite a while ago and no problems, however, mine is insulated and faces East. I guess I hadn't thought of that, the direction it faces, and your climate could affect the long term results.

Any advice on painting it.

I researched this as the overhead door on my house would look better with a different color. I found the best way is to spray with automotive paint. But you can get good results with proper prep and a high quality exterior paint. I was advised to use a roller with no longer nap than necessary but mine is a paneled door and so I will have to use a brush as well. Haven't tackled this project yet as it's not high enough on the list.

Good luck.

I have more questions than answers.
Yes it can be done as mentioned.
Prep, prep, prep. As with any painting project proper prep and quality paint with hardener as needed. You can roll if you want, you will get a better finish spraying. Follow mixing and prep directions for the paint your using.

Easier to do before you install.

the biggest issue is having the latex paint bond to the factory finish.
if you want to be lazy and quick, grab some cans of rustoleum and be done with it. lol

I have used Sherwin Williams DTM (direct to metal) on a metal roll up door. Pressure washed door and applied, been on over a yr and gets sun all day no problems.
