so i got this awesome old fridge when we moved into our house in august of last year, it rumbles like crazy and has a new compressor in it, but i want to paint it the Gulf Racing theme orange and blue...

i was thinking of rattle canning it, but i don't want just colors that are close, i was legit colors.

A) does anyone know where i can paint codes for gulf orange and gulf blue...

B) best way to get just enough paint to paint a fridge on the half cheap

C) best way of applying to fridge, rattle can? pro paint set up? not brushing it on...

gracias...

Probably a google search for "Gulf Corporate Colors". That would be a good place to start.

Also, most major paint manufacturers (DuPont, etc.) have fleet color charts. Good luck. Bill

The colors changed, over time. But the current owners have the specifications in a pdf format identity kit at this link. (The current colors are probably not what you're imagining, though.)

I would think even if you come close anyone having seen Gulf racing colors would know what you are doing and a shade off would not be an issue.
Light blue and orange.
I painted my parents first fridge- a real one made by the company who coined the phase Frigidaire- when GM made the best boxes.
I painted it red and it went on very easy- I used spray cans- if you want a pro look get some auto paint and do it right. The box was a great way to keep beer cold- no box since has done such a great job of keeping Bohemian beer so cold.
Be sure to post some shots

I have had very nice results using oil based paints mixed with some Penetrol and applied with a very dense foam roller. Oil paint with Penetrol levels very nicely. When you find the colors you need, have it mixed in a gloss, add the Penetrol and roll on!

Get a sample of the Gulf racing colors from a decal, picture, etc, and have your local automotive paint supply shop do a color match computer scan. They should be able to custom-mix the formula in small quantities. If you don't have the proper spray equipment, check around with some local "body shops" and have them spray it for you. In the current economy, they might be happy to have the work! Rattle-can paint is not nearly as durable as automotive acrylics, so I would not consider that option. Good luck with your project and post pics when finished.

I have absolutely nothing to add on painting the fridge. But I like your sig :bounce:
Although you seem to be at least 100 sq ft shy of winning :bounce:

Someone once told me, they'd investigated the Gulf colors and found out the blue is actually an original Triumph color.

IIRC, the original colour scheme was from Llewellyn Ryland and was 3707 Zenith Blue; 3957 Tangerine; 3748 Navy Blue (separating line). Please post pics of your finished project. Contemplating something similar.
