Painting before epoxy

I am close to getting ready to put the epoxy on but thought of painting the part below the baseboard and above the floor (mainly for aesthetics). What is this portion called and can I paint it ? what paints can I use ?

Stem wall. Mine were super porous and took 25% more epoxy than expected.

I would prefer not to use the same epoxy because I want a different color (something dark like blue maybe).

and yes, they are quite porous.

Standard epoxy was ment for horizontal use.
There are vertical formulations available.

A high build coating may slump off.

hmmm that makes sense if it is self leveling it should really roll off, but I would expect a thin layer to stay on, which is all you really need.

I guess see what the manufacture you are buying from has a alternative that matches, otherwise I guess it is not going to get any traffic and does not have the same stuff. since you don't want it to match it should not matter what you use

SUPERCOAT works very well in vertical applications, but it's true that the stemwalls are very porous and require much more epoxy than the floor does.

Have you considered painting the baseboards a different color to offset the epoxy on the concrete?

Yes, you can use epoxy on vertical surfaces. If it is 100% solids, you will have to mix in small batches and apply 2-3 thin coats due to the porosity. It can be tedious and time consuming.
If you want it (the stem wall) a different color, I would not go with an epoxy unless you plan on using flakes.

Painted the stem wall with Black Latex Floor paint ( Valspar ). So far so good. Thanks for the suggestions.

My Supercoat floor has worked out very well. I painted the stem wall with the same latex paint as the trim. My stem walls are poured concrete and I was worried they'd take too much epoxy and I might've run short.

I'm glad we did it that way, I think it looks nice and keeps the color scheme going.

Check out the before photo...garage is like a showroom with the Supercoat floor, plus you can work in there and it cleans up very nicely
