Painting cinderblock garage?

Does anyone have any experience with the Behr premium Elastomeric Masonry, Stucco and Brick Exterior Paint? My local Home Depot does not carry the elastomeric version of the masonry paint so I would need to order it online. Not sure if I will roll it on or use a sprayer because this stuff is pretty thick. They recommend a .025-.029 tip size if spraying. That sounds very thick to me?

I am hoping someone on here has some experience with this stuff and can shed some light on it. Or can anyone recommend a different brand or paint type?

I have a 30x50 cinderblock garage that I am painting the exterior and want to make sure the block is sealed well to keep the moisture out. It has never been painted or sealed so this will be the first time.

Any and all input is greatly appreciated!

I don't have any paint recommendations other than normally you get what you pay for. I would just watch for sales on known brand name paint specifically for that purpose. An hour on the phone or doing a Google search could save you some money and help garner some information. Buy it by the 5 gal. bucket. I would suggest if spraying it, have someone backrolling right behind you to help force the paint into the very porous cinderblock, thereby promoting good adhesion.

I've used Dryloc before on my basement. It held up well. Don't cheap out, you only have one chance to apply the first coat. I did mine with a brush and it's a lot of work because it's really thick, but it really fills in the rough block

Not really understanding the use of Dryloc on an above grade application which would not normally be subjected to water pressure like a basement wall. Not that it wouldn't work but might not be the best product for an above grade application. I always understood Dryloc was best used for areas subjected to water pressure or longer term moisture exposure, perhaps I am wrong on that.

My own garage I primed the interior with SW Loxon and top coated with SW exterior Super Paint. Chose exterior paint for inside due to the garage being detached and being subjected to big temperature swings with the seasons. Exterior was already painted so who knows what masonry primer if any went on the exterior. The only problems I have had is minor wicking of moisture through one wall where some of the neighbors planting lay up against the wall what with the garage being on the lot line but most folks wouldn't have that condition.

Simple.... Standard concrete blocks, “cinder blocks“ and lightweight concrete blocks are not waterproof. Water flows through them very easily...... above ground or below It’s still a problem that must be dealt with.

I think I would check with a few local "real" paint stores. Benjamin Moore, Sherwin Williams etc.

When I did the inside walls of my shop we went to the Benjamin Moore store and they suggested a filler/primer and then a semi gloss paint. It has held up great for 20 years so far. If i had to do the outside I would probably trust their advice and product over the HD.
