I bought a new home and Im looking to paint my garage. I plan to clean up, texture, and paint. One question I've been trying to figure out is, is it best to just mask the garage door mounting brackets and rails. Or to uninstall them to have a cleaner paint job.

This is the first time I've done this and I'll be doing this myself and just want my garage door opening and closing as if nothing happened, when all is said and done. lol. Your advice is appreciated. Thanks!

I would mask & paint. A garage door is not easy to remove & reinstall. I painted the framing around mine without even masking. I was just very careful cutting in around the hardware.

Sorry I should've been more clear. I'm not painting the garage door itself but the unfinished drywall and ceiling. The garage track is mounted to the ceiling and was wondering if it's safe to unbolt this to paint, or should I just not mess with it and paint the brackets or mask them.

That's what I was talking about using the cling wrap around. The railings and brackets. Probably cheaper and easier than masking such large things. I definitely wouldn't take them apart.

Hi.
I have had good results masking with kitchen stuff aluminum foil. Much easier to wrap around awkward shapes and also to remove.

Best regards

uninstall then paint. All it is are a couple of bolts on each side. The rails will hang there by themselves. You can swing them out of the way to paint, then put the bolts back in after the ceiling is dry.

I recommend the thin plastic painters masking film.

I paid to have my garage sprayed with White Semi-Gloss acrylic, and that is what my painter used.
