gents,

I've got a line on some very nice (veneered) cabinets that would be perfect for my garage, but they are a wood color. They're smooth, not textured and have no "details", in otherwords the doors and drawer fronts are flat.

any suggestions on painting them? primer? gloss/semi-gloss? short nap roller or airless sprayer?

My garage will be two tone (typical gray bottom half/ white top with racing stripe) the cabinets would match the wall color.

10 upper cabinets (two door style) and 13 base cabinets for $1,050. With countertops and a stainless sink. Sound like a good deal?

thanks in advance,

Wow. No replies? No features can be a good thing - no ledges to trap dust and easy to wipe down. Nice!

The surf is vernier? Do you expect adhesion issues? You gonna use homeowner paint or industrial stuff?

Scotch brite the hell out of 'em and spray 'em! That's my vote, but it depends on the paint you plan to use.

I think I'd seal them with Kilz (oil based)and then paint with 2 coats of semi-gloss enamel. Should be easy to get any dirt or fingerprints off later.

I painted the cabinets in my kitchen and bathroom with Melamine paint. I lightly sanded and wiped them dowm with denatured alcohol. I put on 2 coats with a 4 inch foam roller. I did not prime them. Ten years later still looking good.

PS: they are a nice color, but just wouldn't match. Even my equipment will be colormatched. All i can say is wait till you see the results. Garage-Mahal is on the way.

Those kitchen cabinets would be ideal for your shop. I didn't use primer...just sanded surface and painted with latex base paint. I fhink they look especially great in a shop when painted with an acent color that fits theme of the shop,

Nope, not yet. I'm just starting the drywalling. But I guarantee, it will be one of the best looking (IMHO) garage/shops you will ever see.

It will look like a million dollar shop, but cost only a tiny fraction.

ZRWON- That's what I'm going to do, use an accent color. Doors to be different from the cabinets. It will be some combo of red/black or gray/black or white/gray even some diamond plate trim stripes.

I'll go with some primer made to stick to anything. The guy at HD said to use COVERSTAIN by Zinzer. Claims to stick to glass! So the veneer should be OK. Then a good oilbased paint for a smooth finish.

OR. Some of the specialty paint made for melamine.
