First post! Hope I can successfully attach some pics, but if they don't fly, I'll try to fully describe my problem.

I have a set of steel security doors on my front door. They are the Home Depot/Lowes variety and have a perforated metal screen spot-welded to the backside of a square-tube metal frame. The doors have been there for about ten years and need to be painted, both for preservation and appearance. My concern is painting these doors without having the paint fill in the screen perforations. I'd prefer to use spray cans, but need advice on what kind. Do I need a primer coat? Any advice would be appreciated...

UPDATE: For unknown reasons, the System would not upload my pictures, sending me a message that "a security token was missing"...a second try got a message that "upload failed".

UPDATE #2:

Got a very prompt message from Garage Journal Support saying that my pic file size was probably too large - here's another try, these pics may be too tiny to see...

You only need primer where paint is missing or not adhering properly.

Rattle can it with some Rustoleum.

rustoleum is always a sure thing. Krylon fusion never fails either. And primer over this already present finish will prolly work against ya here. if anything rough the old paint then spray away. But thats just wasting ur time. Post pics when finished.

Remember.. Light coats. the first 1 or 2 coats aren't meant to cover the surface, just adheir something for the future covering coats to bond too.
