Painting over concrete

Have any of you painted your concrete floors with any success? We always painted the floors at work with oil base paint and it always seemed to stand up pretty well to local foot traffic. So, have any of you guys had success painting your concrete floors?

Allgaragefloors.com has some good articles on it. IMHO paint is a waste. If you want quick and easy go with Rust Bullet or do an epoxy and get it done right the first time with one of the two

Well, I painted my patio floor with a dark/kelly green paint made by Sherwin Williams. I chose oil base paint.

I just poured it out of the can and spread it around with a roller. I put four coats on waiting a day or two between coats. So far, it has held up pretty well.

The patio is enclosed and screened in. Once in a while it gets rained on. Paint is about the only thing I could use. I have plenty of paint left for touch up, so it should be OK.

About 20 years ago I painted a wood floor. It held up fine to very light traffic. For the amount of prep work involved with grinding concrete or for those who etch, I wouldn't use regular paint.

Justin's right. It's a low budget option that is only going to last a year (if that) in a garage. There are people that still want to do it however and that's the reason we talk about it.

If you are going to go through the effort of cleaning your floor properly then a regular garage floor coating is the way to go.
