Painting Tip

I wasn't sure where to put this. Mods please move if necessary.

Whenever I paint and need to plug a threaded hole to keep out the paint I use disposable ear plugs to fill them. Anybody else?

Thought it was a useful tip you guys might want to know.

Cool idea! I have used paper cups to block larger holes such as the crank hole in a timing chain cover.

A thin film of heavy engine oil will work as "masking" on gasket surfaces.

A thin coat of vaseline will mask well too

Yes, good idea, also the rubber plugs and caps. We save them up from various things, have a whole box dedicated to them and use them a lot, seems almost daily.

They work great for painting. I also use the disposable ear plugs when mig welding and do not want any splatter to get into threads and then have to run a thread chaser/tap through them and they also work great for putting into holes prior to placing in the bead blasting cabinet. Mike.
