painting your wrenches?

I thought there was a thread that I read the other day that talked about painting the engraved tool sizes on your wrenches. I can't remember the material used. Does anybody know where that thread is?

I paint mine, even the snap on, I get the most ugly color at wally world and I swap color every couple years. That way I can see my tools in my friends toolbox. this year its lima bean green

I saw that thread also, it was either nail polish or model paint.

As for the paint daubs, I bought some tools at an estate sale and he had green paint all over his tools. Seems like a good idea.

I've been doing it for years. I use paint markers, usually in hideous colors like purple or pink or yellow.

I'm in the process of painting mine. There is a color difference between metric and standard though.

I've taken to painting all the tools I buy for the plant a bright flourescent pink. They seem to hang around much better. I mean who wants to cart off a pink cresent?

Get a hypodermic needle from a place like Walgreens, CVS, etc (behind the counter) get the paint of your choice, thin it, **** it up into the hypo and use that to fill in what you need.

Also places like WallyWorld sell paint pens in the Craft section. You can use these to go over what you want and wipe off the excess.

Also like stated above, fingernail polish is good. It is basically just a lacquer paint.

I haven't tried it for myself although I'm planning to, but I've read of people using some lacquer marker/sticks, like these

You need a sticker that says something like "Real men use pink tools."

You also may want to check out a Hobby store to see what they carry in the Arts & Crafts area or a Model store that sell model cars and such

Two different comment threads:

-To fill the engravings I prefer the same neon orange nail paint that I use to paint the fixed front sights on revolvers. Will come off if you want with some solvent and a nylon pick. If you're interested in the actual color code, I can find it in the gun room. You'll find pictures by me on the s&w forum, but here's an example:

-To decrease coworkers "accidentally" getting your tools mixed up with theirs, paint it pink every time.

These aren't wrenches but I think this is kinda what you're talking about. These are parts from a jointer I restored.

As you can see I just slopped the paint (it's just Testors model paint) on, let it dry good, then polished the part. The paint stays in the low spots and is really pretty durable.

at the last dealership i worked at, creepers used to walk off quite a bit.
nothing stolen, but borrowed, and not returned promptly.

i bought a neon pink one from matco.


nobody ever touched my creeper again.....

My dealership must be a rare one...while everyone kinda borrows from every one, it is always promptly returned.
