I have a nook in the garage that is about 116" wide x 21" deep and I would like to ask if anyone knows where I can find a pallet rack about 108" W x 18" D or similar?

The closest rack I can find is 96" wide but I would like to find something a little bigger to maximize the space, any info or ideas are appreciated.

Thanks for the info but did you actually find one this size or are you just pointing out a website? I had already looked through there before but did not see it. The closest I saw was a tire rack without support bars or wire deck.

My company purchases from Hannibal. http://www.e-hii.com/index.php

The load beams that we use are 105" on the inside making it 111" with the uprights.

The smallest upright I use is 24" deep, but Hannibal does make custom pieces.

Good luck!

where are you located? in southern California there is basic industrial supply. I bought some racks but the size I need was not available so I modified the beams to fit my space. as soon as I can I will down load pictures of how I did it

We bought 24" deep racks from Costco; I believe they're 6' long, and You may be able to combine sections to get what You need. Home Despot has some kind of racking also, where You can mix and match lengths. Don't forget to add the uprights to the calculations !

Look for tire racking. It is 18" or 24" deep, but otherwise identical to warehouse racking, so load beams in any available length will fit.
Here is a link to a C/L ad in my area that runs almost continuously, selling rack like this:
http://sacramento.craigslist.org/bfs/2779252362.html

And here is a link to tire racking at Global Industrial:

Thanks for the info Steevo and nice job on the steel / HF workbench. :) The link for the tire rack at Global Industrial racks are either 72" (too short) or 120" (too big) and besides they do not carry wire decks that are 18" deep, which means I would also need to look for it at a different place and pay for separate shipping. I seriously never thought it would be hard to find something like this.

Funny because the rack you mentioned is exactly what I have right now over there. :bounce: But it is too deep and not wide enough, I am trying to get just 2 uprights so I only need 1 beam to span the whole thing instead of having 3 uprights and 2 beams.

That would be ideal for me so I can also use one of the shelves as a workbench and it would be kind of annoying to have an upright right in the middle. If there is no way I can find a suitable rack I will probably end up doing that though.

You will not find a standard size, readily available pallet rack that is exactly what you need to fit a 116" x 24" space. Load beams commonly come in 96", 108", 120" and 144" (as well as some shorter lengths), and uprights are typically available in 32", 36", 42", and 48" depths, and I have seen a fair number of 44" for sale. Accessories such as wire decks and supports are easy to find in 42", 44", 48"and sometimes in 36".
You can order special length load beams, but I've never seen a place that custom makes uprights to specific depths, though I imagine it is possible.
Cutting 120" load beams down to make your overall rack length fit into your 116" space would be fairly easy for any welding shop.

I found the the website below, they have the 18" deep uprights and the 108" long beams which would work out great, but no support brackets or wire deck available and freight/shipping is still unknown since you have to call them to get a quote.

There are a number of companys that sell used pallet racking that also refurbish it. Some of the companies will customize/modify pallet racking to the dimensions you desire.

Try: http://estore.sjf.com/sjf.nsf/homepage?openform

A number of years ago I talked to them about custom sizing. They would simply modify whatever brand I selected and repaint it to like new condition.

Cost will be a factor. Best bet would be to give them a call.

I think your only option is to get some that is wider than you need, but have it modified. They can cut the supports and move them around if needed

This rack was originally 18" deep, 96" beams. Got it for $15 at a garage sale. I had cut the beams to make it fit a certain space a couple of years ago, but that space changed when I re-did my garage last winter. I happened to find some 4' beams at a sale for a business that was downsizing and decided they would work to get my compressor off the floor and utilize floor space better.

Any pallet rack beam can be cut down and have the ends re-welded on to the shorter length. Mine took less than an hour when I originally did it. Wire supports can also be made smaller, though I thing it's an unnecessary expense. Plywood with dimensional lumber supports is what mine uses.

Not my standards you need to meet it's yours! You did a great job up to that point, took your time and carefully cut off the bracket, squared the tube end etc. If you can't weld out of position on thin material, then don't. There was no reason to do it there, a few tacks and take the thing down and weld it up properly. BTW if you "finish" welded over that **** w/o grinding it out, you might as well just left it as it was.
