Anyone have any feedback on palm nailers? For projects around the house, I thought this would be pretty handy to have since it's fairly affordable (compared to a framing nailer), can use standard bulk nails, and can drive anything from 5d to 70d nails. I was looking at the Porter-Cable one since it has like 4 different heads, one of which is a hammer type for things like auto body work. The Amazon.com reviews are all positive regarding these things, but want to know first hand from fellow forum members what their personal experience is. Thanks.

I've used them before while framing my garage and house. For some things, they are great. I used mine for nailing hangers in close quarters. They're hard to control. As soon as you put enough pressure on the nail head, it wants to GO. Sometimes getting the last inch or so in leaves a couple punch marks around the nail head (from missing the head).

They are quick though. They can be a little heavy, too. A framing nailer is much better and quicker for larger jobs where space for the gun is not an issue.

Great for hangers. That's all I've used them for. Your hand will be numb if using it for a long time though (even with gloves and a padded tool case).

I just read on a welding board that the Harbor freight one is nicer and 30$ than the Home Depot one. Since it all comes from china, I guess it doesnt really matter then right?

Mine "says" CH on it, but no doubt it is from China. I think it was like $50. The ones with changeable heads intrigue me though. I'd like the ability to use a bumper style to put t-mold trim on some desktops.

Actually I think its from Taiwan (almost china lol) THey advertise "designed in USA, made in Taiwan" Check it out.

The big debate is whethere Taiwan is better than China. Afterall, they are having thier political issues. China wants Taiwan, but Taiwan wants to be independant.

Actually, the whole taiwan thing is one thing that pisses me off about china. Greedy communist ****s. Think about it? What the hell else does taiwan have besides thier low-cost labor? If china gets taiwan, they have an even tighter grasp on the market.

Just some thinking outloud
