I have the Bosch, and am very happy with it. There was another recent thread where you could get it for less BTW.

About the Bosch Colt. There are two versions. The cheap version is single speed. BAD!
The good version is variable speed, and can easily be identified by the rubber overmold grip. Good! (this BTW is the one you linked to, I'm just pointing it out to others who may see one for an unexpectedly good price and not know the difference.).

The bosch is nice. I own the dewalt router, the dewalt trim router with all the bases, the full size router with D Handle, plunge and standard bases. I also have a dedicated router table.

All that said... if I were to buy a new one now, I would get the bosch. Don't get me wrong... i like my dewalts... they are a quality machine. I just like how the bosch feels in the hand.

I have the Bosch Colt variable speed, the height adjustment is fussy, and vibrates quite a bit.

I might pick up the Makita and give it a try, which I heard was better.

I have the Bosch colt and have been happy with it.
I also have a larger Bosch router with a fixed and plunge base, never let me down.

You should definitely check out the Ridgid version. I do lots of custom wood work and researched before buying my palm router.

It has a few really thoughtful features and LIFETIME WARRANTY.

_ Top mounted power button for one handed off selection.
_ variable speed
_ easy no racking micro adjust
_ included edge guide and multi plate options
_ cheap + warranty

I have 4 Colts in my lab......used by ham-fisted college students. Every one of them has a stripped out height adjustment in barely the first week of use. It's not only finicky, it's poorly designed. Previously I've had multiples of the Porter Cable (7310) in my lab, which is also a bit wonky (I own 2 myself) but I've never had them destroyed like the Colts. Also, stock up on an extra collet or two if you go with the Colt, I've gone through over a dozen. They are delicate.

Another vote for the Ridgid, haven't had any problems with either of mine. Have heard way too many stories of the base creeping on the Bosch while in use.

I bought a Bosch laminate trimmer/router in 1993 and have been using it without any problems ever since. It's a solid performer in my shop. I don't have any experience with Dewalt, so I can't compare the two against each other. Since I've had a good experience with my Bosch, I wouldn't hesitate to buy another one.

Wow, nice. I'll give the Ridgid a look as well. Thanks.

I have a Makita its a good little unit but i do find the height adjustment fairly course. Have heard the Bosch units have a habbit of the motor unit slipping inside the base while being used.

While it's a little bigger, I like the porter cable model 100. I have large hands. They have since discontinued that model. Based on that, I would look at their palm router

~ 3 years ago, HD was running the same deal so I jumped on it. The router has been excellent as has the palm sander. Great value for $99.

Im glad some others have had luck with the Ridgid too!

Funny, I was using it today and came across this post.

Usually Ridgid is a bit more cumbersome and heavy but with this router its really just well executed. And with the Lifetime Warranty its hard to go wrong.
